Vocal - Beginning - Digital Download SKU: M0.30856EB Christian. Woodwinds. E-book. 37 pages. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #30856EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.30856EB). ISBN 9781513470801. 8.75x11.75 inches. With this collection of 26 folk hymns, author Peter Irvine brings shape-note music into the home, and provides adaptable music for a variety of instrumental ensembles. This format allows for instruments such as the mountain dulcimer, Native American or transverse flute, penny whistle, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and so forth. Anyone can play shape-note music, even when Sacred Harp gatherings or “singings†are not easily accessible. The hymns in this collection are drawn from various classic shape-note sources like Southern Harmony (1835) and The Sacred Harp (1844). Presented in lead-sheet format (melody, chords, and lyrics), and written in keys accessible to all C instruments and several D instruments such as the penny whistle and mountain dulcimer, the material offers plenty of arrangements. Hymns can be sung by a soloist, in unison by a small group with chordal accompaniment, or a mixed ensemble.

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.963581 Composed by Marsha Chusmir Shapiro. Contemporary. Score and parts. 29 pages. Marsha Shapiro #3866181. Published by Marsha Shapiro (A0.963581). Grade 3: Early Americans is an original composition for string orchestra which depicts the people from three periods of early American development: the era of the Native Americans, the Colonial Period and the time of Westward Expansion. In the first part (I Native Americans), solo celli imitates the beat of a drum over which the first violin plays a plaintive modal melody which is later layered in canonic style by the other strings. The second section (II Colonists) depicts the classical European dance style brought to the colonies with Yankee Doodle superimposed over the top. In the final section, Westward Expansion (III Pioneers) is symbolized by the square dance tune which is also posed in canonic style.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323071 Composed by William Billings. Arranged by Nathaniel Hontz. Advent,Christmas,Early Music,Holiday,Sacred. 18 pages. TigerSong LLC #911345. Published by TigerSong LLC (A0.1323071). Early American composer William Billings utilizes the same Christmas text Methinks I hear a Heavenly Host for both his tunes Shiloh and Boston. Shiloh, is a lively tune, alternating between 4/4 time for the verse and 3/2 time for the chorus. This arrangement for brass quintet presents three iterations. The first places the melody in the horn, mimicking the early American proclivity for placing the melody in the tenor voice and a counter line in the soprano voice. The second iteration is a multi-part canon between the trumpets, the low brass, and the horn. The final recapitulation restates the carol, this time with the melody in the first trumpet to soar above the other parts. The iterations can be played individually or together.
