Last Spring by Edvard Grieg was originally a song set to a poem by A. O. Vinje, praising the coming of spring, chasing away winters cold. Grieg also arranged this song for string orchestra, and this is a string quartet arrangement of this, slightly altered for educational purposes, for students on an advanced intermediate level. Anitra's Dance from Peer Gynt Suite 1 (Op. 46).
Peer Gynt, Op. 23, is the incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's 1867 play Peer Gynt, written by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg in 1875. It premiered along with the play on 24 February 1876 in Christiania (now Oslo).

Grieg later created two suites from his Peer Gynt music, and this famous piece is from the first suite.

Originally for string orchestra, it works extremely well on three guitars.Â

The death of AÌ?se is from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46, which was extracted from the incidental music toÂ
Henrik Ibsen's play, Peer Gynt. The five-act drama concerns a young Norwegian lad named Peer Gynt, who dreams of becoming emperor of the world. His sundry adventures are the stuff of high drama and adventure, and are rough and isolated in a way that is peculiarly Nordic. Grieg captures this tone perfectly with his music.

The death of AÌ?se Â was intended to be played as a prelude to the third act. Peer Gynt has returned home to his mother Ase, only to find that her days on earth have come to an end. A slow and sad piece.

Grieg published ten volumes of Lyric Pieces for piano, spanning almost his entire composing career. This arrangement is a set of three lovely lesser known ones from his later years.
