This is a trombone quartet arrangement that passes the melody around between the 3 tenor trombones and has an interesting Bass Trombone Part.  The 1st part has 1 Ab above the staff.  The 2nd and 3rd parts have a few G's above the staff.  The Bass Trombone part has some Eb's below the staff.  This is a very playable arrangement for most high school or college trombone quartets. .

'The Connaughtman's Rambles' is a lively Irish jig that's great fun to play. It's well-known and loved and is played across the world in pubs, on stage and at Irish music sessions. It is a great jig for beginners and experts alike.

History: Connacht (previously spelt as Connaught by the British) is one of the five old provinces of Ireland (the others are Ulster, Leinster, Meath, and Munster). The province gets its name from the Connacht, a medieval ruling dynasty. Connacht means ‘descendants of Conn’, referring to Conn Cétchathach of the Hundred Battles.

 The Cimbalom part may be played on a chromatic hammered dulcimer or hackbrett or any other instruments.  

Gongs - ideally 3 bossed/tuned gongs, non-specific pitches: high, medium, low. Bass drum - ideally an orchestral bass drum.  

The octave lower transposition indications in the cimbalom part are optional and when given beneath two-note chords only apply to the lower note.  From bar 62 to the end the cimbalom may be played an octave higher than written.  The cimbalom and gongs are played laissez vibrer throughout.  The bass drum is played laissez vibrer, except where marked with x on stem (for example in bar 32), indicating dead stick technique.  

The narrator may choose one of two texts: 

A:  The Troubles of an Automaton (Excerpt) by Clementina Maria Black 

B:  The Table and the Chair by Edward Lear.  

The start of each section of Narrator text is indicated in the score with boxed text.  Where necessary the end of a text section is shown as unboxed text.  The additional section after Fine 1, starting at bar 101, is optional and can be performed with or without the A6 narration. It is also possible to perform the whole piece without the Narrator, provided the texts are available to the audience.

Programme note: 
This piece may be performed with one of two texts: 'The Troubles of an Automaton (Excerpt)' or 'The Table and the Chair'.  'The Troubles of an Automaton' was written by Clementina Maria Black (1853-1922) and published in the New Quarterly Magazine in 1876.  The story begins with a fictional advertisement announcing a public exhibition of Mr. Slade's Famous Chess-Playing Automaton.  'The Table and the Chair' by Edward Lear (1812 - 1888) appeared in his collection 'Nonsense Songs' published in 1870.  In the poem a table and a chair go for a walk around town, become lost, are taken back to their house by a group of small animals, and then dine and dance together.

This arrangement was made at the request of Marvin Hamlisch. The Seattle Times Reviewer Tom Keogh wrote about this arrangement, “A highlight is certainly the silky grandeur of Henry Mancini’s theme for Blake Edwards’ TV series “Mr. Lucky�…� This arrangement draws inspiration from the record version with an insert Mancini wrote later. The Hammond B3 organ solo as played by the great Hollywood session musician Buddy Cole is transcribed note for note in this arrangement. This part can be alternately played by Rhodes or other keyboard. The written out solo is a suggestion and may be improvised by keyboard player. Throughout this arrangement Mancini’s voicings and orchestrational content have been preserved. Options It is possible to perform this without Hammond B3 or like keyboard solo. In one version in Mancini’s hand writing he called for a Flugal Horn solo. This could be used to replace the keyboard solo. However, a cut can also be made in lieu of solos from B to Bar 50 or D. Instrumentation 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 1 opt Bass Clarinet, 2 Bassoons, 4 Horns, 3 Trumpets (includes optional Lead Trumpet solo) 3 Trombones, 1 Tuba, 1 Percussion: Tambourine ad-lib, 1 Drum Set (optional solo), 1 Fender Bass, 1 Keyboard (preferably Hammond B3 with Leslie or Synth or Rhodes) (solo is optional), Strings.

PROGRAM NOTE: Rosemary - That's for remembrance.... In 1882, Sir Edward Elgar jotted down in his musical notebook a piano piece he titled Douce Pensée (Sweet Thought). There it remained until 1913 when he got it out again, revised it slightly, re-titled it Rosemary - That's for remembrance, and published it for the first time. The title comes from Ophelia's Garland Speech in Shakespeare's Hamlet, where she says, There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember. In 1915, the First World War had been raging in Europe for a year, and many British composers and poets had turned to artistic means to mourn those who died in the trenches of across the Channel. Elgar orchestrated the work at that time. In 1925, London publisher W. Paxton published arrangements by C. Jenkins made for brass and reed band and for military band; however, these are now out of print and no longer available. In the fall of 2015, Mitch Sturman, director of the Wilson Junior High School Warrior Band in El Centro, California, asked me to make an arrangement of Rosemary for the Eighth Annual Concert of Premieres, a series Sturman had begun in 2008, commissioning new works by known composers, and commissioning new arrangements of pieces he felt were worthy works in the public domain that were no longer in print and/or were written for ensembles containing instruments no longer part of the standard modern band or orchestra. Annabella Fulmizi's arrangement of Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance (also known as the graduation song) is a humorous take on the original.  This arrangement was originally intended to be comic relief for graduating seniors in the class of 2020.  This arrangement can be performed with as little as two performers, and as many as needed.  The piece requires pitches G, A, B, C, C#, D, E, and F#.  It is best to have lower and higher octaves of the pitches G, A, B, and C, but not necessary.   The notes in the music are enlarged to ensure easy visibility.  Pitches are labeled and color coded according to the Boomwhackers' color system in order to make the music easier to read.  Have fun with this arrangement and congratulations class of 2020! .
