Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.898554 Composed by Matthew Alan Edwards. Arranged by Matthew Alan Edwards. Baroque,Christmas,Concert,Renaissance,Sacred. Octavo. 7 pages. Matthew Alan Edwards #4266219. Published by Matthew Alan Edwards (A0.898554). Now offering 25% off my SMP price at MatthewAlanEdwards.com/op-7 !Canzona alla terza Verbum supernum prodiens was composed late one night after I was inspired by the chant melody as found in the Hymnal 1982, hymn 63. Rather than compose on the computer as I usually do, I wrote by hand as I determined the best four-part canonic treatment for each of the phrases of the chant. Composing this was akin to assembling a puzzle, both in mindset (this note fits best here) and addictive quality (need to finish this now!). Originally conceived as a short organ piece, I quickly chose to add the English text from the Hymnal 1982 then text directly from the Liber Usualis, a Catholic book of Gregorian chants commonly used until the reforms of the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II). This piece is similar in style to an Italian Renaissance canzona or early German Baroque kanon. It should be performed with performance practice of those eras in mind, including lifts after dotted notes, metric accents, and minimal vibrato, especially at cadences. Lines that end in a melisma should be performed by singing the final vowel and placing the consonant at the release of the final melisma note. The first verse may be sung in unison or as a solo as printed below. The verses may be sung in alternatum (odd verses printed below: solo chant, even verses: choir). The first four verses form a complete anthem and the last two verses are suitable as a Communion anthem, or all six may be sung. The SSA Latin version was adapted from the original SATB version for the women of the Hillcrest High School choral program under the direction of Dr. Khristina Motley in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It reduces the original four-voice setting to three voices without sacrificing any canonic entrances. This SSA English version is also suitable for performance by an advanced middle school choral ensemble or for TTB men. Also available as an organ solo or in Latin. Low voice and piano - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11710 Composed by Edward MacDowell. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 8 minutes, 30 seconds. Schott Music - Digital #Q11710. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11710). German • English. The American composer and pianist Edward MacDowell (1860 1908) is rather unknown in Europe although he had his artistic roots there for he was trained as a pianist in Paris, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt. After returning to his home country, he worked as a teacher while also being the director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra for eight years. During his studies in Germany, the musician already began to compose songs (with German texts), still in the European tradition. From 1886 he used English lyricism as a basis and preferred a sparing, yet expressive accompaniment of the piano. In his last songs, he placed special emphasis on the declamatory aspect of the text and expanded the harmonic range of his tonal language. Of his 42 solo songs, the present volume contains six titles from three of his song collections: Composed or printed for the first time between 1890 and 1898, these songs are a representative selection from MacDowell's important middle creative period and, without doubt, a valuable addition to the song repertoire.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.888255 Composed by Edward David Zeliff. Contemporary. Octavo. 12 pages. Edward David Zeliff #4765865. Published by Edward David Zeliff (A0.888255). This piece is a choral adaptation of an art song setting for soprano and piano of an original text in German contemplating the nature of the ever powerful ocean. The gentleman who wrote the original poetry did so in response to observing the waves breaking upon a rocky shoreline. There is an English text under the German that is a literal and exact translation of the original language and is so well worked out that the same exact music serves the text in both languages with syllabic stress and placement of words in the sentence. Thus it may be sung in either German or English with equal effect. This choral version is an enrichment of the vocal texture but with harmonic language derived from the original piano accompaniment. The piano accompaniment is identical to that of the art song and is somewhat challenging. The choral parts are not terribly difficult, but the difficulty is enhanced somewhat when sung in German. The constant ebb and flow of the sea as well as its power and majesty and mystery are evoked in this richly harmonic and strikingly melodic music.

Piano (4 hands) - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11737 Composed by Edward MacDowell. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Op. 20. Schott Music - Digital #Q11737. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11737). Edward MacDowell (1860–1908), although rather unknown in Germany, ranks among the most important musicians of North America on the threshold of the 20th century. He received his musical training in Paris, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt. In 1888 MacDowell returned to the USA where he was celebrated as a pianist and composer, as 'the greatest musical genius America has produced'. Influenced by the works of Schumann and Grieg, his 3 Poems display a mature romantic sound image. The pieces for four hands live on their strong expression while being soft, sensitive and subtle in the detail. The gentle tones reflect MacDowell's love of nature, especially of the clouds and the sea, with 3 Poems beginning with the movement Night by the Sea. The pieces are ideal for lessons, recitals and concert performances.
