It has become one of the most popular works for contraltos and mezzo-sopranos and is frequently a major study work at conservatoires and universities. This new version is for voice and piano, with the piano part adjusted to more closely resemble the orchestral parts. Whilst Elgar originally wrote Sea Pictures for a soprano soloist, he lowered the key to suit contralto Dame Clara Butt, who gave the premiere. This edition is in the traditionally performed lower keys, suitable for mezzo-soprano or contralto (we also publish this in the original higher keys for soprano on SheetMusicPlus).
