String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1291367 Composed by Dr. John Bull. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Christian,Historic,Religious,Renaissance. 26 pages. Jmsgu3 #882018. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1291367). John Bull was an English composer, organist, virginalist, and organ builder who lived from 1562/63 to 1628. He was educated as a chorister of the Chapel Royal in London and later became a Doctor of Music at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Bull was one of the most famous composers of keyboard music of the early 17th century, and most of his compositions were written for the virginal, a keyboard instrument popular in the Renaissance period. He was known for his outstanding technical ability and keyboard virtuosity, and his music is distinguished by unfailing resourcefulness in devising new musical ideas. Bull's reputation rests on his extensive compositions for virginals and organ, some 150 extant pieces published in Musica Britannica. He was also one of the contributors to Parthenia, a collection of keyboard music published in 1611. Bull wrote an anthem, God the Father, God the Son, for the 1613 wedding of the princess and the Elector Palatine, in addition to his keyboard compositions, verse anthems, canons, and other works. Bull's music ranked among the foremost composers along with Byrd, Gibbons, and Tomkins. The significance of John Bull's Salvator Mundi lies in its historical and cultural importance as a musical composition. John Bull was a prominent English composer, and his work Salvator Mundi is part of the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, a collection of keyboard music from the late Elizabethan and early Jacobean periods. Bull's music is highly regarded, placing him among the foremost composers of his time, along with Byrd, Gibbons, and Tomkins. The term Salvator Mundi also appears in a papal bull issued by Boniface VIII in the 14th century, which was a definitive statement of the late medieval theory of hierocracy, emphasizing the pope's supremacy. Salvator Mundi is also known as the title of a famous painting attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, which has been the subject of extensive investigation regarding its materials and techniques. Therefore, Salvator Mundi holds significance in music, history, and art.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Bass Clarinet,Flute,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1329070 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Christian,Christmas,Historic,Traditional. 6 pages. Jmsgu3 #917038. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1329070). Greensleeves is a traditional English folk song that has several interesting facts associated with it:Origin: The song's origin is uncertain, and there is no consensus on who composed it. It has been attributed to Henry VIII, the King of England, but this association is considered erroneous, and the song is more likely to be Elizabethan in origin.Christmas Carol: The tune of Greensleeves is used for the classic Christmas carol What Child Is This?Lyrics: The song's lyrics are about a painful romantic problem and include what some historians view as subtly salacious content. The lyrics deal with a spurned lover accusing Lady Greensleeves of casting him off discourteously despite his love for her. The song's scandalous twist is hidden in its title, and its exact meaning has been debated for centuries.Cultural References: The tune was used as the slow march of the London Trained Bands in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was adopted as the quick march of the 7th (City of London) Battalion London Regiment during World War I. Additionally, the tune has been referenced in literature, such as in Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor.Popularity: In some parts of the world, the Greensleeves tune is famous as a standard chime for ice cream vans. These facts make Greensleeves a fascinating and culturally significant piece of music with a rich history and diverse interpretations.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.948762 By Howard Goodall. By Howard Goodall. Arranged by Warren J. Wernick. Contemporary. Score and parts. 7 pages. Warren J Wernick #5713803. Published by Warren J Wernick (A0.948762). Blackadder is a series of four BBC One pseudohistorical British sitcoms, plus several one-off installments, which originally aired from 1983–1989. All television episodes starred Rowan Atkinson as the antihero Edmund Blackadder and Tony Robinson as Blackadder's dogsbody, Baldrick. Each series was set in a different historical period, with the two protagonists accompanied by different characters, though several reappear in one series or another, e.g., Melchett (Stephen Fry) and Lord Flashheart (Rik Mayall). The theme song is composed by Howard Goodall, an English composer of musicals, choral music and music for television. He also presents music-based programs for television and radio, for which he has won many awards. In May 2008, he was named as a presenter and Composer-in-Residence with the UK radio channel Classic FM. In May 2009, he was named Composer of the Year at the Classic BRIT Awards. Goodall said of the Theme, They asked me if I would have a go at the tune. With all of these things, although I do come up with my own ideas, you don't really come up with a good one unless you talk it through with them and the vision they've got. It was quite obvious, the historical approach they were going for. What's interesting is that the first series, the medieval one with 'Richard the Fourth', was much more filmic and much more historical. That's why we ended up with that tune. Whereas had the first series been the Elizabethan one, the theme would have been slightly gentler, less heroic. .

Small Ensemble Cello,Guitar,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928276 Composed by Thomas Morley. Arranged by Simon James. Renaissance. Score and parts. 15 pages. DML #6866075. Published by DML (A0.928276). No 5 - I Saw My Lady WeepingTaken from Thomas Morley's First Book Of Ayres. This is the first verse of a well known Elizabethan poem (anon) which was also set by John Dowland with the slightly different title of I Saw My Lady Weep. Dowland set all three verses whereas Morley only the first, I have given the other two in the notes within the score for information. The song is through composed with the last two lines repeated, not uncommon at that time, and has quite an elaborate texture making it more challenging to play. Morley’s description of the publication was: Little short songs to sing and play to the lute with the base viole. I have substituted guitar for lute and cello for bass viole, chords have been re-voiced in places to better suit the guitar but no alteration has been made to the harmony. .

He will not leave thee nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord. (I Chronicles 28:20). Double Bass,Piano Accompaniment,Tenor Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.826963 Composed by Elizabeth Skola Davis. Children,Contemporary. 19 pages. Elizabeth Ann Davis #2849785. Published by Elizabeth Ann Davis (A0.826963). Wolf Skin, an original song for male voice, upright bass, and piano, was written to accompany a prose poem of the same name by Mary McMyne, which originally appeared in the Los Angeles Review and was subsequently reprinted as the title poem in McMyne's Elgin-Award-nominated collection (Wolf Skin, Dancing Girl Press, 2014). The lyrics and music retell the Little Red Riding Hood folktale from the huntsman's perspective, putting the listener into the position of the hero in the Brothers Grimm variant as he enters the grandmother's house. Inside, the baritone sings, the shadows shape a riddle, a story. The half-burnt candle in the kitchen, the unwashed dishes. The cloth-covered basket by the door. With these lines, we travel into the grandmother's house with the huntsman, the bass conjuring the strange buzzing sound of the wolf's snores, the piano manifesting the huntsman's realization of what happened before he arrived. The discord between the three voices in the trio, like the poem, questions the classic tale, interrogating the familiar trope of huntsman as hero at the same time as it pays homage to Franz Schubert's Erlkönig with its driving rhythm and dark tone.Bass part may be played by cello.Baritone version also available.
