Key: D major.Das Concertino classico für Violine und Klavier oder Streicher von Bertold Hummel entstand im Sommer 1999 als sein Enkelkind Fabian auf der Geige gerade die erste Lage beherrschte. Die Idee war, beginnenden GeigerInnen ein kleines Violinkonzert zur Verfügung zu stellen, um die wenigen technischen Fertigkeiten musizierender Weise zu erproben. Je nach Gelegenheit kann es mit einem begleitenden Klavier, einem Streichquartett oder zusammen mit dem Schulorchester aufgeführt werden. Der Titel verrät schon, dass sich Hummel an Form und Tonsprache des klassischen Solokonzertes orientiert. In drei Sätzen werden einfache, volkstümlich anmutende Themen vorgestellt und variiert. Eine größere Kadenz im Allegro wird von Hummel - je nach Charakter des geigenden Kindes - nur ad libitum angeboten. Die kurze überleitende Kadenz im Presto muss dagegen gespielt werden. Mit dem wehmütigen Finnischen Volkslied, das in der Elegie variiert wird, überbrückte das Ehepaar Hummel gerne räumliche Entfernungen.

Es kann, wenn man den Titel wichtig nimmt, ein Portrait der Person Johannes Brahms', nicht seiner Musik darstellen und verweist im Duktus auf die Blütezeit des Klaviertrios im 19. Jahrhundert. Der Beginn - zunächst im Gestus eines Violinkonzerts - ist ein Zwiegesang zwischen Geige und Cello, zu dem später das Klavier hinzutritt. Eine im großen Ton zu spielende Stelle, unisono für Geige und Cello mit treibendem Klavier, bricht unvermittelt in einen chaotischen Abschnitt um, der schließlich das Klavier mit verzweifeltem Hämmern in die extremste Lage treibt. Diese äußerste Erregung wird zurückgeführt in eine quasi-Reprise mit einem cantablen, schmerzlichen Abgesang, der relativ kurz ist und steil abfällt in einen unvermittelt abschließenden stumpfen d-Moll-Akkord. Man kann das Stück als Psychogramm der verborgenen inneren Lebenschaotik von Brahms deuten und sein Bestreben, diese musikalisch zu bewältigen. -Wilhelm Killmayer.

The piece ends with a cadenza of the solo clarinet to which an optional organ improvisation can be added. Barbara Heller dedicated this chorale to the memory of Elke Mascha Blankenburg (1943–2013). Talking about her before the first performance, the composer said: ‘She was open-hearted with a really tender soul, very trusting. Her creativity knew no limits; she was also an almost fanatical campaigner for music by women. In the music you will hear now I have attempted to convey some aspects of her personality: charming, loving, obstinate, committed, volatile, tragic, crazy, untamed, tender and anguished.’ The various sections of this chorale may be performed in a correspondingly contrasting manner: searching, hesitant, visionary, focused, volatile, accusatory, hopeful, etc., with use of rubato and powerful contrasts in dynamic and tone quality.
