This is another composition which was inspired by poetry but for this piece the inspiration came from a poem called 'Autumnal Lake' written by a close friend. Composed c.2002 the piece has several different musical themes, one for each verse of the poem. What is even more special is that 16 years later it was performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018, read by Faynia Williams with myself at the piano.

I'm pretty rubbish with titles for the music that I create unfortunately (95% of the time the music comes first and a title is 'assigned' after completion, with the music inspiring the title rather than the other way around) and this piece was no exception. To me, the piece felt like it was replicating a bird in motion.

Length One of my main aims in arranging popular titles is to make the effort to try and minimise the amount of pages required. As a Musician I hate having pages and pages of music that could have been condensed using repeats and other structure markings. This arrangement fully utilises these and this is part of the reason why the decision was made note to notate the final chorus as sung in the recording. Alternatives I also have an Voice, Piano, and Guitar Arrangement, which has the melody on its own staff with the guitar chords above with a simple piano accompaniment under neath.
