Derek Hasted writes Elton John's Basque is a really unusual piece - on the one hand it won a Grammy in 1991 for 'Best Instrumental', and on the other hand it has vanished from sight - it appears that there has only ever been one released version, featuring James Galway on flute. At the time of publishing this arrangement, there seems to be only a single piano version of the original piece for sale which comprises just a snippet of the original.
My oboe arrangement has been transposed to fit in the “sweet spot†of the oboe’s range, where the haunting melody can sing at its best. The guitar part uses a capo on fret 2 so that all the arpeggios shapes are familiar to guitarists of even quite limited experience.
I hope this arrangement will bring this gorgeous melody to the ears of even more people.
There are no dynamics on the music - you will find that the tune brings its own shape to the music. Guitar fingerings are restricted to the first occurrence of the larger chord-shapes, but all these chords will be familiar to players of even modest experience.
