The Polovtsian Dances, or Polovetsian Dances  form an exotic scene at the end of Act 2 of Alexander Borodin's opera Prince Igor. The introduction to dance number seventeen was used in the popular song Stranger in Paradise from the musical Kismet and this arrangement for Flute Trio is suitable for intermediate Flutists.

Johannes Brahms composed his set of twenty one Hungarian dances originally for two pianists, and they were published in that form in two sets in 1869 and in 1880.
His contact with Hungarian and Gypsy folk music as a teenager led to a lifelong fascination with irregular rhythms, triplet figures and use of rubato in his compositions.

Jules Massenet was inspired by a popular play by Corneille, as were both Bizet and Debussy, but Massenet was the only one of the three composers to complete his opera, Le Cid (The Lord) which remained very popular throughout Europe for its first thirty-five years.
The opening movement of the ballet suite, Castillane from Castile, Rodrigue’s home province, is a mixture of elegance and heroic Spanish dance.
This arrangement is for two advanced intermediate flute players and suitable for encores, competitions and any occasion.

Haydn completed his Symphony No. 101 The clock for it's premiere on 3rd March 1794 at the Hanover Square rooms in London given by an orchestra of sixty players.
As with Haydn's other London symphonies the audience was very enthusiastic and
Symphony 101, named The Clock
(from the ticking rhythm played throughout the second movement marked Andante,) remains very popular today.
Symphony 101 is frequently recorded and it is scheduled on concert programs worldwide.
The ticking rhythm is maintained by two flutes in this two part arrangement of the Andante and it is suitable for classroom study, various flute ensembles, festivals or performance for any occasion.

Jean-Philippe Rameau composed for his operas lively dances in duple time called Tambourines after the popularity of the low pitched tenor drum from Provence.
This Tambourine arrangement in D minor is for flute and piano and it is Rameau's most well known Tambourin' originally performed in the third act of his opera Les fetes d'Hebe.
The piece was also published as a keyboard arrangement in his E minor suite Pieces de Clavencin.
The arrangement is essential classroom study and suitable for concerts, competitions, or a church interlude. Duration: 2:00

Jörg Widmann composed the three-movement work in 2016 in memory of the Swiss flautist Aurèle Nicolet. The world premiere took place as part of a concert in Freiburg which was dedicated to Nicolet who had died shortly before; the interpreter was Emmanuel Pahud, one of his pupils. The versatility of the work shows, for example, in its obbligato instrumentation of bass flute and bossed gong – both instruments require only one additional player.
