Instrumental Duet Harp,Instrumental Duet,Viola - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1039821 Composed by David M. Sterrett. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 49 pages. David Sterrett Music #644665. Published by David Sterrett Music (A0.1039821). This piece depicts the story of the Penitent Thief, one of the two other men who hung on a cross beside Jesus, as told in the Bible: One of the thieves who were hanged by Jesus was hurling abuse at him, saying, 'Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!' But the other answered, and rebuking him, said, 'Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? We indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.' And he was saying, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom!' And Jesus said to him, 'Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.' (Luke 23:39-43) I initially set out to portray the scene from a narrative perspective. As I began composing and felt the story resonate more and more with my own spiritual experiences, I decided to shift the focus onto what I imagined the emotional and spiritual experiences of the Penitent Thief were during this brief but transformative interaction with Jesus right before death. While the passage does not describe his internal experience, I imagine that Jesus’ extension of kindness and mercy, along with the promise “Today you will be with me in Paradise,†profoundly impacted him. In composing this, I hoped to convey that transformative encounter. Ultimately, The Penitent Thief depicts an experience familiar to many Christians: that of a lost and broken soul discovering Jesus offers the truth and salvation they long for. To capture the element of dialog, I envisioned the Viola as the Penitent Thief and the Harp as Jesus. Each has a distinct theme/motif. On the cross, the Penitent Thief is consumed by shame, sorrow, and fear of death. His demeanor shifts between moments of quiet contemplation and visceral emotional outbursts. Facing imminent death, he yearns for redemption and truth. He looks at Jesus hanging next to him, blameless and holy. He feels admiration and praise and is overcome by penitence and humility. He calls out, half in desperation, half in worship: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom…†Jesus, moved by his penitence and belief, responds with kindness and mercy, extending salvation: Today you will be with me in Paradise.†The Penitent Thief imagines Paradise and hopes for this to hold true. His hope becomes briefly overshadowed by lingering doubt and fear. Silence falls. Then, as the hour of death arrives, the man reaches out again and clings to Jesus’ promise, this time with more desperation. His soul suddenly becomes filled with joy, finding the fulfillment of longing, bound with Christ, and knowing that he will soon be at rest in Paradise. At peace, the man gazes upward, gives his final sputtering breath, and his soul departs this world.

Stephen R Dalrymple #3070593. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818215). This is My Father’s World♫ piano solo arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple♫ lyrics by Malthie Babcock with a traditional English melody adapted by Franklin Sheppard♫ Malthie Davenport Babcock, a pastor in upstate New York, was an athletic man who loved to walk near Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. He often told his wife that he was “going out to see the Father’s world.†This phrase prompted the title for one of his original poems. His wife published his poems after his death in 1901 (age 42.) ♫ In 1915 Franklin Shepherd, his friend, adapted Babcock’s poem and an English folk tune to create the hymn. Shepherd named the melody TERRA BEATA (Blessed Earth). ♫ The original folk tune appears in the opening notes of the Shire Theme by Howard Shore in the Lord of the Rings Film Series.♫ The last stanza used in this video is seldom found in hymnbooks. But there is a delightful idea here that since Jesus Christ was incarnated on the earth, the entire earth is holy ground.♫ music © 2017 (copyright registered in 'I See your Glory’ collection)♫ recording ℗ 2020 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2023 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ performed by the composer♫ This .pdf file includes 2 files: 1) Letter size piano score 2) Small page piano score for performing from a 10 inch tablet♫ (Tell your computer which pages you want to print. Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1225840 By Rainer Fabich Orchestra. By Rainer Fabich. Arranged by Rainer Fabich. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV. Score and Parts. 212 pages. Fajora Music #821876. Published by Fajora Music (A0.1225840). RAGING FURIES - Rasende FurienGoddesses of revenge - Göttinnenn der RageConcert Piece for big orchestra - Score and PartsThe image of the raging furies as a topos has permeated the world of thoughts and images of mankind for thousands of years and has inspired and fascinated countless artists. This idea is also based on an emotional background, a violent, uncontrolled emotional outburst, a rage (Latin: furor, in the sense of frenzy, passion and madness, French: rage). The resulting affect action is described as rage or fury, combined with a state of mind of uncontrolled excitement in the sense of being beside oneself or out of one's senses. The personification of these affects was in Greek and Roman mythology with the trio of vengeance goddesses, the Erinyens (Latin furia) called: Alekto (the incessant, the never resting), Megaira (German: Megäre, the envious anger) and Tisiphone (the Vengeance avenging the murder, represented with a dog's head and bat's wings), and another, that of Nemesis (the reconciling justice). Already in antiquity they were depicted in sculptures, embossed on coins or immortalized as images on amphorae. They appear in all eras of fine arts, sometimes in female, male or androgynous form, e.g. as avenging angels, or as hybrid beings between humans and animals. Pictures by Albrecht Dürer, Hieronymus Bosch, Tizian, Peter Paul Rubens, William Hamilton, Johann Heinrich Fuessli, Franz von Stuck, Alfred Kubin, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, Yongbo Zhao and many others are proof of this. They found their way into the literature of Virgil (Aeneis), Dante (Divine Comedy) or John Milton (Paradise Lost). Goethe lets them appear in Faust II, Schiller (Die Kraniche des Ibykus) and many others refer to them directly or in a modified form, such as Kurt Tucholsky (Gripsholm Palace), Alfred Döblin (Berlin Alexanderplatz), Max Frisch (Homo Faber) or Jean-Paul Sartre (The Flies). In opera, they become an important element in highly dramatic scenes, especially on themes with a mythological or historical background, often also related to the underworld, as in Monteverdi (Il Ritorno d`Ulisse in Patria), Lully (Armide), Gluck (Orpheus and Euridice) or Purcell (Dido and Aeneas). Haendel dedicates an aria to them in Rinaldo, the Furie Terribili. Mozart also uses it in The Magic Flute, in his aria Der Hölle Rache by the Queen of the Night.Furies appear up to the present in various forms, in comics, fantasy novels, computer games, or kung fu films of the 70s (Furies on the yellow river). They are even popular as plastic children's toys, mostly in particularly frightening and creepy presentations (Matchbox/Fighting Furies or Warhammer/Erinnye). This remarkable history and reception inspired Rainer Fabich to create this new orchestral work from his MYThS series. PEGASUS - Ride on Wings, ULYSSES - Prélude to an Odyssey and THE AMONZS - Myth and Projection have already been released. As the title suggests, this is frantically wild music (Allegro molto vivace) that seems to run away, like an action film with fast motives and runs of strings and woodwinds, combined with strong accents of brass and massive percussion Set. Alternations of straight and asymmetrical beats illustrate erratic sequences of movement, as are typical of scenes with the highest intensity, especially in films (e.g. a chase). In the jazzy middle section, the furies calm down a little, before they pick up speed again in a bombastic third section and increase to the point of ecstasy.

2 Pianos,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972673 Composed by James Siddons. Contemporary,Folk,Jazz,Spiritual. Score. 25 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #6698569. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972673). Performance NoteSonata Hymnica No. 6 is scored for two pianos and three performers. One  performer (or player) sits at Piano I and may also serve as the conductor. At Piano II, Performer 1 plays from the treble  staff and Performer 2 plays from the bass staff. There are possible variations in this, such as having four pianos (two pianos  doubling the other two), or having two performers at Piano I, with Performer 2 playing only the bass-staff rhythmic pattern that  begins in measure 37. A standing conductor (not playing piano) may be desired.  Although repetitive, the music in this sonata rarely repeats itself  exactly; hence, further minor improvisations by the performers are appropriate, keeping with the improvisatory nature of oral  tradition. Program Note (for use in concert programs) by James Siddons  The Sonata Hymnica series by James Siddons consists of piano solos that explore the world of American hymns and  vernacular religious songs in the 1880-1920 era, when rural and small-town churches relied on pianos for music, and, in an age before microphones and amplification, the acoustics of wooden floors, walls, and high ceilings. These sonatas are not hymn arrangements but explorations of the sounds that can be created by a piano in a reverberant environment, all the while keeping in mind the essential message of the familiar words  sung to the various hymn tunes. Sonata Hymnica No. 6 is the first in the series to be for piano ensemble, and the second (after No. 3) to be based on the worship music of the 19th-century African American church. This sixth sonata also explores the singing world of the black congregation and choir as well as the piano. Their singing was shaped  by the sounds and intonations of the piano and the heritage of European music behind it, as well as the contours and cadences of the religious folk songs known as Spirituals. But the black congregations also sang hymns and choruses from the Classical tradition, and the Spirituals became the basis of many adaptations by white arrangers. Thus, we may speak  of  standardized adaptations of Spirituals as white black music, and black performance styles of Classical works as black white music. Piano ragtime music is a non-religious example of white music (the military march) made into black white music by the blending in of the syncopated rag rhythm. Sonata Hymnica No. 6 explores the intermingling of these two strains of American music as heard in the 19th-century black church. In his classic book The Souls of Black Folk (Chicago, 1903), W. E. B. Du Bois confesses to not being a musician but nonetheless finding himself enthralled by the music of the Southern 19th-century African Americans. He refers to their singing as the Frenzy or ‘Shouting,’ when the Spirit of the Lord passed by, and seizing the  devotee, made him mad with supernatural joy . . . stamping, shrieking, and shouting, the rushing to and fro and waving of arms,  the weeping and laughing, the vision and the trance (p. 116). On another page, Du Bois speaks of . . . the songs of my fathers . . . swelling with song, instinct for life, tremendous treble and darkening bass (p. 163). Sonata Hymnica No. 6 uses the African call and response form as well  as percussive polyrhythms.
