Composed by Pierre Phalèse. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance. Score and parts. 26 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6350391. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522264).

GAILLARDE l’ESMERILLONNE
Gaillarde No 6, Premier Livre de Danseries (Pierre Phalèse, Leuven 1571) for Wind Instruments

Pierre Phalèse (1510-1575) was a Flemish publisher and his First Book of Dances, an extensive collection of dances in four parts, was published in Leuven in 1571. They are attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts, public recitals or end-of-semester events. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the gaillarde (or galliard) was a popular dance and a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I of England. This is the 6th dance in a set of 20 gaillardes in the original publication. This arrangement is scored for virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments with optional percussion and keyboard parts. The flexible arrangement enables them to be played by non-standard ensembles. The optional keyboard part enables you to use the piece as a solo or duet and trio for mixed instruments.
This 4-part arrangement is presented in a single PDF file which includes the Full Score; Part 1 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 2 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 3 (C, F, B flat, E flat), Part 4 (C, B flat, E flat); Keyboard and Percussion. A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option. The score and set of parts come in a single PDF file. Some small modifications have been made to the inner parts in the original to facilitate performance.

The percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and two players are required. Other percussion instruments may be added as desired. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.

Composed by Henry Worrall. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 19th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional. Individual part. 6 pages. Keith Terrett #1024245. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1444330).

The story of “Spanish Fandango” begins in 1825, when Henry Worrall was born in Liverpool, England. Worrall immigrated to New York as a child, and his biography is a classic American tale of energy and self-invention. After his family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, around 1835, young Worrall left his occupation as a newsboy to work for a decorative glass cutter.

At the same time, Worrall set about teaching himself to play guitar—and, eventually, painting, engraving, and design. In the 1850s, he published a popular tutorial, Worrall’s Guitar School, and his original compositions, with evocative titles like “Mexican Airs,” “Saint Louis Rondo,” and “Sebastopol—A Descriptive Fantaisie for the Guitar,” became part of America’s popular music canon.

Composed by Michael Praetorius. Arranged by Alessandro Macrì. Film/TV,Renaissance,Standards. 69 pages. Music Macri Editions #5317471. Published by Music Macri Editions (A0.931217).

Written for Sardigna Brass Festival

Three Dances from Terpsichore (Introduzione - Spagnola - Bransle simple de Novelle)

The Terpsichore is a compendium of more than 300 instrumental dances published in 1612 by the German composer Michael Praetorius. The collection takes its name from the muse of dance.

In his introduction Praetorius takes credit for arranging the music rather than composing the tunes. The collection is based on French dance repertoire of the time, although some of the tunes have been identified as coming from elsewhere in Europe, for example England and Spain.

The publication was rediscovered in the twentieth century by the early music movement. Recordings include a selection performed by the Early Music Consort (which was released in 1973),and others from the New London Consort etc.
