Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323225 Composed by Cornish folk tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Advent,Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred. 10 pages. Con Spirito Music #911489. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1323225). “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” is an English traditional carol dating, perhaps, to the 16th or 17th century. A manuscript, ca. 1650, contains a version with the first line, “Sit you merry gentlemen” and the refrain, “O tidings of comfort and joy.” The earliest known printed edition of the carol is a London broadsheet dated 1760, in which the first line is the familiar “God rest ye merry, gentlemen.” By the 19th century, the carol was well-known, with Charles Dickens referencing it in his 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol. The phrase “God rest you merry” in the first line is an archaic idiom meaning “God grant you peace and happiness.” William Shakespeare used the phrase “rest you merry” in his plays, “As You Like It” and “Romeo and Juliet,” both from the 1590s; but Dickens recorded the phrase as “God bless you, merry gentlemen” in A Christmas Carol. The tune adapted for use in this arrangement was at the time of its notation a wordless, nameless melody noted in 1905 by folk song collector E. Quintrell from the singing of a Mr. Boaden in Cornwall, England. The tune was sent to Lucy Broadwood, editor of the Journal of the Folk-Song Society, who decided that it fit the ballad, “The Maid in Bedlam,” and published the tune and text together. Gustav Holst later arranged the tune as Song without Words ‘I'll Love My Love’” in his Second Suite in F for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 2 (1911) and again as “I Love My Love” in his 6 Choral Folksongs, Op. 36 (1916). Set in F minor (Dorian), the tune brings a contemplative tone to the text, with the high point of the refrain being the subdominant Bb major chord on the word “joy.” The rich, dark timbre of solo clarinet (part included) on introduction, interludes, and ending adds to this tone. SATB voices (with some divisi on soprano and tenor), piano, Bb clarinet©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Instrumental Duet English Horn,Instrumental Duet,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.588927 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David McKeown. Jewish,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6020753. Published by David McKeown (A0.588927). Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Cor Anglais, (or English Horn).Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a steady beginning, the melody gradually increases in tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Hava Nagila is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Hava Nagila is perfect for celebrations, weddings and concert performances, both formal and informal. Banjo (5-string) - Intermediate-Advanced - Digital Download SKU: M0.20669EB Composed by Steven J. Harvey. Banjo: Clawhammer, Solos and Duets. Folk. E-book and online audio. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #20669EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.20669EB). ISBN 9781619110403. 8.75x11.75 inches. Here is a book of tunes from the Elizabethan era-the great period of English song-set in tablature for the clawhammer banjo. At first glance, it is true, the songs of Shakespeare-s day and the mountain banjo seem to be worlds apart. But the musical traditions are, in fact, related, as Elizabethan songs are the old world cousins of mountain tunes. As a result, Elizabethan tunes are a natural way to extend the mountain banjo repertoire for intermediate and advanced players. Their pedigree, their modal feel, the lilting rhythms, and the ease with which they can be adapted to the banjo argue the case. At the same time, they open the possibility for new sounds-in particular new rhythms-for the old instrument, pushing the banjo beyond unnatural limitations and giving it a new voice. Each section of the book is organized around a traditional mountain tuning, with a mountain song serving as a model of that tuning, illuminating the relationship between the two musical worlds. The Bard's Banjo is the first banjo instruction book devoted to the repertoire of Elizabethan song. Includes access to online audio.

Con Spirito Music #857095. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1264232). All Things Bright and Beautiful is a beloved hymn written by Cecil Frances Alexander (1818-1895), an Anglo-Irish poet known for her hymns There is a Green Hill Far Away and Once in Royal David's City as well as her metrical paraphrase of St. Patrick's Breastplate (a prayer attributed to Patrick, patron saint of Ireland), known by its opening words, I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity. An exposition of the clause of the Apostles' Creed that describes God as maker of heaven and earth, All Things Bright and Beautiful was published in Alexander's Hymns for Little Children in 1848. It was later included in The English Hymnal (1906) with a tune composed by W.H. Monk in 1887.All Things Bright and Beautiful is also frequently sung to the hymn tune ROYAL OAK, adapted from a 17th-century English folk tune, The Twenty-Ninth of May and published in the collection of English country dances, The Dancing Master, in 1686. This tune was first associated with Alexander's poem in a 1916 arrangement published by English composer Martin Shaw (1875-1978) and earned wide popularity after its inclusion in the 1925 English hymnal, Songs of Praise. This accompaniment to unison voices for organ and brass quintet is based on the ROYAL OAK tune. Includes full score, parts for organ, Bb trumpets 1-2, F horn, trombone, tuba, and reproducible bulletin insert.©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Stephen R Dalrymple #3070593. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818215). This is My Father’s World♫ piano solo arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple♫ lyrics by Malthie Babcock with a traditional English melody adapted by Franklin Sheppard♫ Malthie Davenport Babcock, a pastor in upstate New York, was an athletic man who loved to walk near Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. He often told his wife that he was “going out to see the Father’s world.” This phrase prompted the title for one of his original poems. His wife published his poems after his death in 1901 (age 42.) ♫ In 1915 Franklin Shepherd, his friend, adapted Babcock’s poem and an English folk tune to create the hymn. Shepherd named the melody TERRA BEATA (Blessed Earth). ♫ The original folk tune appears in the opening notes of the Shire Theme by Howard Shore in the Lord of the Rings Film Series.♫ The last stanza used in this video is seldom found in hymnbooks. Piano,Tenor Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1204336 Composed by American folk hymn tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Easter,Folk,Lent,Traditional. Score and part. 8 pages. Con Spirito Music #802815. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1204336). Here's a lovely, lyrical tune that's ideal for use during Holy Week or as a meditative prelude, offertory, or communion selection for trombone (or euphonium, cello) and piano.Saw Ye My Savior? is an early 19th-century American folk hymn with a tune that predates it by perhaps 100 years or more. Both the text and the tune seem to have been freely adapted to the subject of the song (whether secular or sacred) and the singer, which is typical of folk songs and folk hymns handed down from one generation to the next. For example, the text of the hymn, which begins Saw ye my Savior, saw ye my Savior, saw ye my savior and my God? is similar to that of an English folk song, Saw you my father, saw you my mother, saw you my true love John?In the 1858 edition of William Walker's shape-note hymnal, The Southern Harmony, and Musical Companion, the source cited for the text and tune is Baptist Harmony (1834), p. 477. However, William Hauser and Benjamin Turner's collection, The Olive Leaf (1878), refers to the tune as a Scotch air; and certainly, the Scotch snap rhythm in measures 3 and 4 of the tune lend credence to that. The website, hymnary.org, cites Saw Ye My Savior? as having been published in 167 hymnals (all prior to 1979 but one). Two similar tunes, CRUCIFIXION (Southern Harmony) and ATONEMENT are associated with the text. Because the subject of the text is Christ's crucifixion (see representative text here), Saw Ye My Savior? has often been used as a choral anthem in Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday worship services. This arrangement of the lovely, flowing tune for trombone (or euphonium, cello) and piano is ideal at any time as a meditative prelude to worship, or as an offertory or communion selection. ©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548740). Very strong arrangement for Easter. Duration: 2:48. 84 ms. Score: 7 pg. Solo part 1 pg. piano part 3 pg. Morning Has Broken is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune known as Bunessan [1] (it shares this tune with the 19th century Christmas Carol Child in the Manger[2]). It is often sung in children's services and in Funeral services.[3] English pop musician and folk singer Cat Stevens included a version on his 1971 album Teaser and the Firecat. The song became identified with Stevens due to the popularity of this recording. It reached number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number one on the U.S. easy listening chartin 1972,[4] and number four on the Canadian RPM Magazine charts. The hymn originally appeared in the second edition of Songs of Praise (published in 1931), to the tune Bunessan, composed in the Scottish Islands. In Songs of Praise Discussed, the editor, Percy Dearmer, explains that as there was need for a hymn to give thanks for each day, English poet and children's author Eleanor Farjeon had been asked to make a poem to fit the lovely Scottish tune. A slight variation on the original hymn, also written by Eleanor Farjeon, can be found in the form of a poem contributed to the anthology Children's Bells, under Farjeon's new title, A Morning Song (For the First Day of Spring), published by Oxford University Press in 1957. The song is noted in 9/4 time but with a 3/4 feel. Bunessan had been found in L. McBean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael, published in 1900.[5] Before Farjeon's words, the tune was used as a Christmas carol, which began Child in the manger, Infant of Mary, translated from the Scottish Gaelic lyrics written by Mary MacDonald. The English-language Roman Catholic hymnal also uses the tune for the James Quinn hymns, Christ Be Beside Me and This Day God Gives Me, both of which were adapted from the traditional Irish hymn St. Patrick's Breastplate. Another Christian hymn, Baptized In Water, borrows the tune. -Wikipedia

Piano,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1316468 By DaCapo Primary Music. By Peter Furniss. Children,Classical,Folk,Instructional,Traditional. 68 pages. DaCapo Primary Music #905203. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1316468). Brilliant solos for beginner violin with piano accompaniments. The tunes in this collection of concert pieces have been adapted from traditional folk and children’s songs and given a whole new lease of life with entertaining and imaginative piano accompaniments. There are two versions of each piece – one technically easier than the other. The keys are those needed for early graded exams and there is scope to extend the key ranges and explore octave displacements, varied articulation, slurrings, different fingerings etc. These possibilities are not always marked in the score as it is hoped that the teacher can encourage pupils to bring their own ideas to each piece. The imaginative and varied piano parts give the performer much more than just a chord structure as support for their playing and the accompanying CD can be used once they are able to play the pieces with ease.Designed to be the first concert pieces for a beginner to be played with a pianist or at home with the CD, giving the audience entertaining music to listen to whilst giving the player a real sense of a serious performance. In Concert is the final workings of songs that were commissioned to teach music to children systematically using relative solfa. The songs (all old English folk songs) were reworded to make for entertaining material for children whilst they learn the basic elements and skills of music making. The songs are contained in The First DaCapo Songbook and are brought together as a singing performance in The Farmyard Suite. In Concert is the instrumental version of this. You can find more DaCapo pieces for young instrumentalists at DaCapo Music Shop
