It is about 6 minutes in length and probably used as music for the theatre. The Chancony or Chaconne has been arranged for 8-part Trombone Ensemble in two choirs by Ralph Sauer for moderately advanced performers. The work uses a repeated ground bass line in 3/4 meter and could have easily been called a Passacaglia by the composer.

Dr. Marcellus has dedicated his arrangement to the memory of the late Steve Witser, his former student and colleague who was Principal Trombonist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In his arrangement Marcellus has split the music into a two 3-part Trombone choirs each with two tenor Trombones and a bass Trombone. The work is separated into six sections titled: 1. Arioso: Adagio - His friends try to persuade him not to undertake the journey 2. Andante - His friends tell him of the various misfortunes that may befall him abroad 3. Adagiosissimo - The general lament of his friends 4. Andante con moto - His friends come, since they see that it must be, and take leave of him 5. Posthorn Aria 6. Fugue in Imitation of the Posthorn.

In the piece there is even additional divisions to help create more texture and colors in parts 3 & 4, yet remaining simple and true but sounding beautiful , what flutes should sound like.Great for studying flutist, to high school and college students. Flute choir groups, etcwould be a great addition for your ensemble, whether playing at a recital, concert, church and other spiritual events, graduation, weddings, etc. This would also be a great tool or warm up for balance and shaping sound, volume, color, blending, phrasing and other important technique builders for your group.You'll love this arrangement   ,and so will the flutists and your audience!
