String Trio Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1324430 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Christian,Christmas,Religious,Traditional. 6 pages. Jmsgu3 #912628. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1324430). Greensleeves is a traditional English folk song that has several interesting facts associated with it:Origin: The song's origin is uncertain, and there is no consensus on who composed it. It has been attributed to Henry VIII, the King of England, but this association is considered erroneous, and the song is more likely to be Elizabethan in origin.Christmas Carol: The tune of Greensleeves is used for the classic Christmas carol What Child Is This?Lyrics: The song's lyrics are about a painful romantic problem and include what some historians view as subtly salacious content. The lyrics deal with a spurned lover accusing Lady Greensleeves of casting him off discourteously despite his love for her. The song's scandalous twist is hidden in its title, and its exact meaning has been debated for centuries.Cultural References: The tune was used as the slow march of the London Trained Bands in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was adopted as the quick march of the 7th (City of London) Battalion London Regiment during World War I. Additionally, the tune has been referenced in literature, such as in Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor.Popularity: In some parts of the world, the Greensleeves tune is famous as a standard chime for ice cream vans. These facts make Greensleeves a fascinating and culturally significant piece of music with a rich history and diverse interpretations.

Instrumental Duet Guitar,Instrumental Duet,Mandolin - Digital Download SKU: A0.1017679 Composed by John Dowland. Arranged by Gordon Jackson. Celtic,Classical,Folk,Irish,Multicultural,Renaissance,World. Score and parts. 2 pages. Gordon Jackson #6437115. Published by Gordon Jackson (A0.1017679). Lady Hammond’s Alman(Lady Laiton’s Alman)I first came across a tune called Lady Hammond’s Alman in a book of country dances. It comprised just a melody. As I played it on mandolin I was adding plenty of double stops, and I wrote these down. I then added a bass line. Later, I discovered the piece to be a composition of the Elizabethan lutenist, John Dowland. Later still, I found the piece under the name, Lady Laiton’s Alman, but I have retained the Lady Hammond title simply because that is how I first encountered it!An alman (aka almand, almand, allemande etc) is a dance in duple time. Thoinot Arbeau, in his Orchesography of 1589, states that ‘The Alman is a simple, rather sedate dance, familiar to the Germans, and, I believe, one of our oldest since we are descended from them.’ (‘Allemande’ means ‘German’ in French.)

Published by Forsyth Brothers Ltd (A0.887517). A great value set of FIVE original compositions/arrangements by prominent 20th Century British big band arrangers John Golland, Gordon Jacob, Roy Newsome and Michael Ball, and edited by Harry Mortimer. The Bandkraft series is a collection of superb arrangements and original compositions (actually gems) for brass band that is challenging and enjoyable for polished performers, while within the grasp of players of more limited technique. The flexible nature of the arrangements means that the pieces can also be played successfully when not every part is present.Includes:1. Bandkraft – John GollandA substantial piece with an exciting syncopated rhythm introduced in the opening bars and referred to throughout in a fanfare-like manner, to which a hint of dissonance adds extra thrill to the sound.2. Saraband – Gordon JacobA stately Elizabethan dance of great beauty that utilises modal harmony in Jacob’s characteristic style. Constant speed, full note values and careful playing will achieve a beautiful, delicate effect.3. La Donna E Mobile – Verdi, arr. Roy NewsomeAn amusing arrangement of a popular favourite by a conductor and adjudicator of international acclaim. Easy and enjoyable to play and to listen to.4. Spike’s Rag – Michael BallA skilfully written piece in the true tradition of Scott Joplin, with the ragtime rhythms the backdrop to an unfolding conversation between the sections of the band. Really persuasive entertainment.5. National Anthem (British) – arr. John GollandA simple first verse setting the scene for the colourful and majestic second, utilising chromatic harmonies and an optional tenor counter melody for added splendour.Instrumentation:Soprano CornetCornet 1Cornet 2/FlugelCornet 3Horn 1Horn 2Horn 3Baritone 1/Trombone 1Baritone 2/Trombone 2Bass TromboneEuphoniumE Flat BassB Flat BassPercussionFull score (including two stave reduction)All BandKraft titles assume a reasonable level of competence on each instrument (approx. Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1412170 By Stuart Brown. By Stuart Brown. Arranged by Stuart Brown. 21st Century,A Cappella,Christian,Easter. 8 pages. Stuart Brown Music #994410. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.1412170). A beautifully light and joyful original setting, in neo-Elizabethan style, of well-known words translated in 1708 by John Baptist Walsh from the hymn 'Surrexit Christus Hodie'. Ideally to be sung by four soloists (SATB) but would work when sung by any competent mixed choir. The composer writes: It was on Easter Sunday morning in 2024 that the idea of writing a new setting of these words came into my mind, as if fully formed. The actual composition took me no more than one hour ... and immediately it felt *right*. Certainly it puts a smile on my face every time I hear it!.

Easy Guitar (with TAB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1466982 Composed by John Dowland. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. Early Music,Historic,Instructional,Medieval,Renaissance. Tablature. 1 pages. Brian Streckfus #1045545. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1466982). John Dowland is often associated with being a melancholic lute player and singer in the style of the Elizabethan era, earning him the moniker Always Dowland, always doleful. If you have been looking for a composer that sounds like knights and castles on a lute, than look no further, you have found the best examplar: John Dowland.Mr. Dowland's Midnight is an instrumental piece composed for the lute. It is a pavan, a slow and stately dance popular in Renaissance music. It is typically played in the key of E minor. Dowland's compositions, including Mr. Dowland's Midnight were published in collections such as The First Booke of Songes and Lachrimae, or Seaven Teares. Having hollow 5th chords (A.K.A. power chords) is a cliché rennissance trope/motif, but the piece actually uses a more complex harmonic vocabulary than one would expect for the 16th century. There certainly is a fair amount of hollow 5th though.Features:1. Updated to modern notation2. Arranged for modern standard tuning guitar instead of lute tuning 3. Obvious fingerings added (subjective fingerings left in)4. Chord names added5. Glissandos added 6. Key changed.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465866 Composed by James F. Linzey and Lowell Mason. 21st Century,Chamber,Patriotic,Religious,Sacred. 4 pages. Military Bible Association #1044463. Published by Military Bible Association (A0.1465866). The History of the United States Marine Corps and the Marine Corps HymnOn November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution to establish the Continental Marines. ?is marked the formation of the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps was provided two battalions with a fleet. But the Treaty of Paris in April 1783 ended the Marine Corps along with the Revolutionary War. It was later permanently re-established on July 11, 1798. Since then the United States Marine Corps has been involved in the War of 1812, defending Washington in Bladensburg, Maryland, fighting for Andrew Jackson against the British in New Orleans, and fighting in the Mexican War (1846-1848) in which US Marines fought all the way to the Halls of Montezuma, Mexico City. The Marines served in the Civil War (1861-1865), the Spanish-American War (1898), the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902), the Boxer Rebellion in China (1900), and World War I. The Marines were later involved in World War II, the Korean conflict beginning in 1950, and the Vietnam conflict, beginning in 1965. By the 1970s, the Marines were securing NATO, and later were involved in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm (1990s), Somalia (1992), Operation Enduring Freedom (2001), the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2002), and in various conflicts since then. Since the inception of the Marine Corps in 1775,about 70,000 Marines have been killed in action. James Linzey served as a chaplain for the Marines in training at Fort Lee, Virginia, and as a contract chaplain at the Airman-Marine Memorial Chapel at MCAS Miramar from 2016-2019. While at Miramar, he gave leadership seminars to the Marines on the Battle of Midway. He is one of ten children of World War II hero, the late Navy Captain Stanford E. Linzey, Jr., CHC, USN (Ret.), who survived the sinking of the USS Yorktown (CV-5) in the Battle of Midway as a sailor, and later served with the Marines in Okinawa as a chaplain. Since the Marine Corps is part of the Department of the Navy, it has used the Navy hymn in chapel services. What is called “The Marine’s Hymn” cannot be sung in chapel services, because it is not a song of praise. As a fighting march, its author called it a hymn in name only. So, in commemoration of the United States Marine Corps, hymn writer James F. Linzey wrote the United States Marine Corps Hymn, “Serving for Thee.” He set it to the tune of Bethany, which was written by Lowell Mason in 1841. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.
