This is a medley of two old English carols, The Holly and The Ivy and I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In, in a jazz style arrangement. It was originally part of the two volume clarinet collection, Carols For The King From Around The World, also available at Sheet Music Press. A violin collection is planned so check back for more single arrangements and eventually a two volume collection. For advanced intermediate performers, this is sheer fun from start to finish, and very suitable for Christmas concerts. The piano left hand plays a walking bass throughout and could be performed with a double bass player - contact me for the extracted part. Here is a new arrangement of this much loved Irish hymn, written as a graduation gift for a young cellist friend of mine and here rearranged for violin. It is in Celtic style, with a stirring climax in the last verse. It is very suitable as a church service prelude or offertory, wedding prelude or as part of a recital. This is the ancient Advent hymn arranged here for SATB, trumpet and organ from organ and choral settings by J. S. Bach and Pachelbel. Beginning with a cappella men's voices and solo trumpet, it builds to a triumphant final verse with the choir in unison. Suitable for church services and seasonal concerts, I have performed this very effectively with my choir positioned down the side aisles of the church, then processing up the center aisle during the final verse. This is the well loved carol arranged using the two melodies to which it is sung in the United Kingdom. The more common one, Forest Green, is known in the USA to other texts, but the lovely tune Christmas Carol by H. Walford Davies is less familiar elsewhere in the world. For advanced intermediate players, this peaceful setting would be perfect for any Christmas concert, or as prelude or offertory music in Christmas services. Also available for violin, cello and piano trio.
