Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.933412 Composed by Marc Aramian. Arranged by Marc Aramian and Mac Frampton. Christian,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Sacred. Octavo. 18 pages. TALLULAH TUNES #2151393. Published by TALLULAH TUNES (A0.933412). 2016 Choral Contest Entry  - In late 2014, Dan Korneychuk, music director at the Bel Air Presbyterian church in Los Angeles, asked me to score one of his favorite poems which was written by Samuel Grossman in 1664. It had been put to music unsuccessfully, some felt, several times in the past. I decided to write a ‘hymn version’ first, much as it would appear in a traditional hymnal. Unfortunately, the text traversed the extremes of emotion in the telling of Christ’s passion rendering the melody inappropriate in places. I decided to keep to the hymn version as much as possible, but when the emotional story differed from the musical one, I used harmonic variation and dissonance, utilizing the wide palette of the orchestra to tell the story. This piece has been performed on Palm Sunday. Versions exist in the form of a hymn, an arrangement for 10 brass and 2 percussion, an arrangement for SATB/piano, An arrangement for SATB/organ, and an arrangement for orchestra.Questions or comments?  Contact me at marc at aramian dot com.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1453498 Composed by Sy Brandon. 21st Century,Contest,Festival. 235 pages. Sy Brandon #1032727. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.1453498). Legacy is a three-movement composition for chamber orchestra that makes social commentary on the issue of global warming. It was commission in 2007 by the Washington Sinfonietta, Rufus Jones, conductor and rewritten for chamber orchestra in 2023. I. Conflicts - This movement begins with a cry from native cultures admonishing our neglect of the environment. The cry is interspersed with debate regarding the seriousness of global warming (woodwinds). The debate grows stronger as the cries grow weaker. The debate isquieted by a measure of repeated chords that could be the words, stop it! stop it now!” A weak cry in the English Horn brings the introduction to a close. An Allegro section follows with a rhythmic and primitive sounding section representing the underdeveloped nations that are destroying the rain forests for economic gain. This material evolves into a more harmonic and contrapuntal section representing industrialized nations reluctant to change, also for economic reasons. Things quiet down as the music takes the listener to another part of the globe, East Asia. Conflict is again present in this section. The music returns to a varied restatement of the industrialized nations music before traveling to India for a section influenced by Raga. This section builds in dissonance until we hear the repeated stop it now chords from the introduction. A brief reprise of the cries brings the movement to a close. II. Consequences - This movement evokes a somber mood that is reflective of living in a climate of extremes. The movement is in arch form as it begins and ends with open harmony reflective of barren lands that once were fertile. The middle section serves as a climax expressing the harshness of the climate. Colleen McCullough's book, A Creed for the Third Millennium was a source of inspiration for this movement. III. Sacrifice and Compromise - The movement begins with a strong section that suggests progress. It is followed by a quieter and intense section that alternates lyrical lines over a staccato ostinato creating a sense of urgency. The opening section returns and is followed by a development of the ostinato section. This section is symbolic of how ideas need to be adapted in order for progress to be made. The opening section returns once more before leading into the concluding section where there is coming together of the instruments on a long lyrical line representing more and more people working together for change. The movement ends with a sense of triumph over adversity. Score prints on legal size paper and parts on letter.

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.921656 Composed by Chris Bandy. Contemporary. Score. 9 pages. Chris Bandy #3010947. Published by Chris Bandy (A0.921656). Entropy is a series of anti-climactic etudes for solo piano. Movement I, which is about three minutes in length, features technical extremes, a wide range of timbres, and descending odd time signatures that provide a sense of gradual disorganization. The main theme is a simple step-wise melody that is repeated within a vast number of keys, and often in the inner voices of modern harmonies. After a meandering bridge that disregards the barlines, the theme returns in a terrifying climax, only to be quickly shattered by dissonance and flung lifelessly to the deep end of the instrument.

Violin Duet Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488286 Composed by Ignaz Josef Pleyel. Arranged by Allan Badley. Classical. 55 pages. Artaria Editions #1065174. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488286). Artaria Editions AE407-2Ignaz Pleyel (1757-1831) was at one time the most famous composer in the world. The popularity of his music eclipsed that of even his teacher Haydn and publishers vied to bring out his latest works as soon as they were finished. Some 2000 separate prints of Pleyel works had appeared by 1800 and his fame extended to every corner of Europe and as far afield as North America. Pleyels career as a composer spanned less than thirty years with the majority of his works composed in the 1780s. He founded a successful publishing house in Paris in the mid-1790s and later began manufacturing keyboard instruments. With increasing demands on his time from his business concerns Pleyels productivity as a composer dropped sharply and he ceased composing around 1805. Among the authentic chamber works the duos occupy a particularly interesting place. Pleyel composed duos of varying technical difficulty in order to appeal to the widest possible market and he clearly intended that players progress from easy works, signalled by titles such as Duo Facile or Petit Duo, to more ambitious works. The present works, composed ca 1788, lie between these two extremes: they require players with well-developed techniques but do not present exceptional difficulties to the performer. They are graceful, attractive works and their great popularity in Pleyels lifetime comes as no surprise to the modern performer.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1378093 By Elton John. By Elton John and Tim Rice. Arranged by Cassy Gress. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show. 10 pages. Cassy Gress #962714. Published by Cassy Gress (A0.1378093). This SATB arrangement of Circle of Life forgoes the traditional Lebo M opening for a more metaphorical sunrise, and shortly thereafter the sopranos and altos are the mother cooing to her newborn child, the ingonyama. The familiar chant does not appear until partway through the instrumental break, and continues euphorically through the modulation to the thundering finale. There are opportunities for ambitious sopranos and basses to reach the extremes of their range, and three-way divisi for the altos.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1031686 Composed by Austin Wintory. Contemporary. Score and parts. 39 pages. Austin Wintory #3512243. Published by Austin Wintory (A0.1031686). EP!C!!! is an overture-sized orchestral work, originally commissioned by the West Michigan Symphony in 2016. It is intended as a higher energy opener or Act 1 closer. Program notes:Entirely by mistake, EP!C!!! is study in conflict. The piece began with a simple premise: compose a work which teases some of the pervasive clichés of today’s musical landscape (particularly the Hollywood or so-called media music scenes). Those clichés are primarily two gestures: 1) a progression of chords, often called the Chords of Destiny (consisting of i – VI – III – VIII) and 2) an endlessly repeating minor third ostinato. The conflict emerged internally when, after multiple false starts, I would quickly start to hate the piece because it felt like the clichés were being presented whole cloth, without the slightest sense of irony. I became deeply paranoid that the music wasn’t in on its own joke. When I would reverse course, it felt condescending, as though it were declaring from some erudite ivory tower that it was above those gestures. The trouble particularly with the latter is that clichés become so for a reason; something genuinely compelling becomes so ubiquitous that it loses some of the freshness, but that doesn’t erase what initially made it compelling. So the piece needed to somehow make fun of the fact that these gestures are cliché, while not dismissing their intrinsic value. And indeed, to celebrate that value! It took a long time to find my place between those two extremes, and ultimately I think the music that emerged is actually the conflict itself manifest. The two gestures are this constant presence, almost like a seductive temptation, that are initially regarded as distractions, but eventually become the music’s core. It’s as though the music finally decided to just relent and find something to truly love and celebrate within these overwrought ideas, haters be damned. However, for the sake of total clarity of intention, I couldn’t resist some on-the-nose tongue-in-cheek. The little cameo of Haydn’s lulling 94th Symphony 2nd movement tune is my way of saying you think classical music is epic??? THEN LISTEN TO THIS SH*T!!! before inevitably popping open a Mountain Dew and snowboarding into an avalanche.- Austin Wintory, October 21, 2016

Although the recorder is often the instrument with wich children will make their first musical discoveries, it is also an instrument of the highest artistic merit. This series of books tries to link these two extremes, providing a carefully planned pathway between first, playful contact with the instrument and professional recorder playing. The three Tutor Books are suitable for use both with small groups and for individual tuition. Progress is methodical and is made in small steps placing great value on consistent work with breathing, sound production and the development of rhythmic security. In the Tutor books we speak directly to the child and provide carefully planned, precisely formulated exercises. We recognise that some children learning the recorder will not yet be able to read, but hope that this will provide an opportunity for a parent or teacher to become involved in the learning process. Each step in this process should be fun and accessable to both the parent/teacher and the child. Tutor Book 1 is intended for children from about six years of age. Previous musical experience is not essential but undoubtedly would prove useful. It concentrates on the notes B, A, g, E1, C2 and D2, leaving sufficient time and space for the development of articulation, rhythmic security and breathing techniques. Tutor Book 2 adds the notes C1, D2, F2, E2, F2 and B flat, whilst Tutor Book 3 completes the range up to C3 - at which point the treble recorder can be introduced. Tutor Books 1, 2 and 3 are complemented by Tune Books 1, 2 and 3. The tune Books are matched to the stages of learning process of the Tutor Books and provide additional practice pieces and exercises, sometimes with accompainment. In the Teacher's Commentary we explain the teaching methodology behind the tutor and provide stimulation for ideas for lessons. It will be helpful if the child has a manuscript book of her or his own, or some manuscript book. Dotty's Note Book (ED 12641) is specially designed for the purpose, with large staves suitable for children as well as plain pages for words and pictures. We wish users of this tutor every success and happiness with their recorder playing.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792625 Composed by Julius Fucik. Arranged by Wes Ballenger. 20th Century,Concert,Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 26 pages. Gordon Cherry #5040985. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792625). Entrance of the Gladiators is a military march composed in 1897 and soon after was also subtitled Thunder and Blazes. It has become a legendary screamer march for circuses to introduce the clowns. The march is in three sections with some very lyrical moments followed by the chromatic break section featuring the low brass. The final trio section is also lyrical and chromatic at the same time. When played as a screamer the tempo is often taken to extremes. Wes Ballenger has done an amazing job of arranging this famous march for a virtuosic Trombone quintet.

Flute solo - Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.1.3371-E Composed by Christina Jennings and George Rochberg. 24 pages. Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital #1.3371-E. Published by Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital (MQ.1.3371-E). The arranger's transcription includes 20 of the original 51 caprices. She chose to include those best suited to the flute while representing the enormous stylistic range of Rochberg's entire set. Her goal in the transcriptions was to use the flute to its fullest capacity, challenging the player with dynamic, technical, and stylistic extremes: the range of these variations goes from a B1 to an E4 and from pppp to ffz! She made minimal breathing and metronome suggestions, adding these only when they seemed most important. In George Rochberg's Afterword to the Performer, he permits omitting some of the repeats and variations to suit the length and artistic discretion of the performer. However, he advocates for balance in preserving the stylistic spread which is a fundamental premise of this work. c. 27:00.

Unison/Two-part chorus - Digital Download SKU: C7.CGA130 Composed by Randolph Currie. General. With Handbells 2 octaves, Glockenspiel. Sacred Anthem. Octavo. 8 pages. Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGA130. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGA130). UPC: 749193003176.Brethren, We Have Met to Worship' is an arrangement of an American folk hymn with a pentatonic melody; the text is by George Atkins. Although quite within the realm of Junior-age choirs, the words would seem to indicate performance by high school or even adult singers. The first stanza, though in unison, could alternate men and women as long as the sturdiness of the tune is maintained. The second, in canon, has the boys posing questions with the girls answers overlapping. This section should be unusually animated so that the listener is swept along with the dialogue. The final stanza, unison with descant, probably would be best with first sopranos on the obbligato, all other voices on the tune. Having the lower women's voices join the men on the melody will fill in the extremes of the part writing and give more possibilities for the divisi in the last few measures. The composer has given some general registration suggestions for performance on the organ. Light, clear sounds should be used that will support the voices as well as emphasize the rhythmic nature of the piece.
