The music is inspired by video game music (and a little bit of funk music as well). Mvt I is inspired by modern open-world games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Mvt II is inspired by classic games like Castlevania, Metroid, Super Mario Bros. etc. Mvt III is inspired by funk music (and video game music) generally.

This horn sonata (TWV 82a) is an arrangement of my Contrabassoon Sonata (TWV 82), and the contrabassoon sonata is actually an arrangement of my Tuba Sonata (TWV 50).

This is definitely a low horn sonata! ;) The horn part is an octave higher than the contrabassoon version and perfect 5th higher than the tuba version.

The tuba, contrabassoon, and horn are all awesome instruments and they need more solo repertoire!

This arrangement of Amazing Grace is for Horn in F and Piano. The piece starts out with the piano playing the hymn once through followed by an entrance by the Horn accompanied by the piano. The Piano accompaniment matches the Horn closely with a largely triplet pattern punctuated by active duple animated staccato passage-work. A talisman is an object, such as an amulet, a bowl, or even a symbol, held to act as a charm to avert evil and bring good fortune. This Talisman is a sonic charm, a brief recital piece that captures the essence of the Maine lakes and woods, evoking in song a sense of the rustic and the legendary. It was commissioned by Minneapolis resident Holly Windle in tribute to her mother, Jan, who played the horn as an adolescent. The premiere was given by Charles Hodgson, horn, and the composer in Saint Paul, Minnesota on November 11, 2021, heard below in this fine live performance. It is appropriate for advanced intermediate performers and is about 4 minutes in length.
