La versione orchestrale è quella oggi più conosciuta e molto più spesso eseguita.L'arrangimento, si basa sul Corale di Sant’Antonio, composizione per ensemble di fiati, all’epoca attribuita erroneamente a Franz Joseph Haydn ed ancora oggi di origine incerta; i fiati e il pizzicato degli archi esaltano il suo carattere corale. Il tema è impostato su due periodi asimmetrici, entrambi con ripetizioni segnate da ritornelli: il primo periodo presenta due frasi di cinque battute ciascuna, il secondo è costituito da uno sviluppo in otto battute, una ripresa di quattro battute e un finale di sette. Il tema è chiuso da un accordo ripetuto.

The Symphony is in 4 movements following a more classical ordering and is a little under 35 minutes in length. The initial rising scale idea with 'missing' notes pervades much of the material in the symphony The symphony took longer to compose than is normal for me as it was composed during the difficult period of my father's swiftly evolving final illness, death & dealing with the aftermath. The shadow of my father's final illness & witnessing his swift decline particularly hangs over the slow 2nd movement. The first movement after a broad but forward moving introduction, is energetic with a continual forward momentum. The 3rd movement is a deliberately elusive scherzo movement with a strange inconclusive coda. The finale, after a reserved opening is surprisingly optimistic pushing to a sonorous conclusion. As is the norm for me, I composed directly into full score.Orchestral parts can be supplied upon request.

The Sony Classical album Liberty! features Song Of The Liberty Bell in all three arrangements. O’Connor later adapted his piece for violin and piano. Album notes author Thomas Fleming calls the music profoundly moving with exquisite melody. Fleming further describes the orchestral version - O’Connor joins in, and the instruments of the symphony pick up the theme. It is a musical replication of the way the voices of liberty in 1776 began with a lonely defiant few - and then swelled to a tremendous national chorus that has resounded through the world for the next two hundred and thirty-three years.
