It consists of a theme and eight variations, plus a grand finale. It was written in two forms, one for two pianos and the more well-known one for orchestra.There is a musicological controversy as to whether the theme is actually from the pen of Haydn or another mystery composer. Some are now referring to it as the Saint Anthony Variations. Nevertheless, this 18-minute work by Brahms is a magnificent work of genius.Not to be outdone, Mr. Sauer has created his own masterpiece of this work, arranged for virtuoso artists of the Trombone and Piano.
