With a gracious and slightly nostalgic beginning, the piece builds in energy and pace, leading to a triumphal finale. This piece has an effective and rare combination of flowing lyrical melodies with an almost military-like feeling towards the mid and latter sections; partly inspired by the excitement and power of American marching bands, as the piece was composed for an American University ensemble.
