Three Pieces for Chanukah is not so much a set of arrangements of familiar words and tunes than it is a set of original compositions based on them. The first two settings feature jazz-influenced, classical harmonic and melodic treatment of the tunes. The mood of the first setting is upbeat and the mood of the second one is more subdued. The mood of the third setting is extremely upbeat; it is composed in a straight funk style, albeit contrapuntal. The front matter to each edition features program notes, a pronunciation guide for the Hebrew words and the Hebrew and English texts.

Morning Has Broken is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune known as Bunessan [1] (it shares this tune with the 19th century Christmas Carol Child in the Manger[2]). It is often sung in children's services and in Funeral services.[3]

English pop musician and folk singer Cat Stevens included a version on his 1971 album Teaser and the Firecat. The song became identified with Stevens due to the popularity of this recording. It reached number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number one on the U.S. easy listening chartin 1972,[4] and number four on the Canadian RPM Magazine charts.

The hymn originally appeared in the second edition of Songs of Praise (published in 1931), to the tune Bunessan, composed in the Scottish Islands. In Songs of Praise Discussed, the editor, Percy Dearmer, explains that as there was need for a hymn to give thanks for each day, English poet and children's author Eleanor Farjeon had been asked to make a poem to fit the lovely Scottish tune. A slight variation on the original hymn, also written by Eleanor Farjeon, can be found in the form of a poem contributed to the anthology Children's Bells, under Farjeon's new title, A Morning Song (For the First Day of Spring), published by Oxford University Press in 1957. The song is noted in 9/4 time but with a 3/4 feel.

Bunessan had been found in L. McBean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael, published in 1900.[5] Before Farjeon's words, the tune was used as a Christmas carol, which began Child in the manger, Infant of Mary, translated from the Scottish Gaelic lyrics written by Mary MacDonald. The English-language Roman Catholic hymnal also uses the tune for the James Quinn hymns, Christ Be Beside Me and This Day God Gives Me, both of which were adapted from the traditional Irish hymn St. Patrick's Breastplate. Another Christian hymn, Baptized In Water, borrows the tune. -Wikipedia

Composed by Alexander Borodin. This edition: study score. Ernst Eulenburg - Orchestra - Score. Eulenburg Miniature Scores. Downloadable, Study score. Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital #Q40349. Published by Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital (S9.Q40349).

Key: B minor. German • English • French.

It took Borodin almost five years to write his first symphony, and the composition of 'Symphony No. 2' was to take just as much time. One should not forget, however, that music was mainly a leisure activity for the professor of organic chemistry in St. Petersburg. His work on 'Prince Igor' begun after the world premiere of Symphony No. 1 finished in favour of the second symphony, but part of the musical material found its way into the new composition, and even the extant programme testifies to the critical analysis of the music theatre: the gathering of Russian warriors in the first movement, the Old Slavonic bard in the andante, and the party scene to the sounds of the gusli in the finale.

By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Franz Joseph Haydn. Arranged by edited by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Classical. Score. 14 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #4967139. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818283).

Piano Sonata 40.2 Presto (Classical Music for Tablet Series) Franz Joseph Haydn was born in 1732 in a small village in Austria, near the Hungarian border. ♫ His father was a wheelwright and a leader of the town. His mother had been a cook in the palace of a Count. His father had taught himself to play the harp. His family was musical and often sang together (16 brothers and sisters). His father saw that he was extremely musical and that he couldn’t get the education he needed in his little village. When he was 6 years old, he was sent to the home of a relative about 7 miles away to study to be a musician. He never lived with his parents again. ♫ In 1752 he was employed by Count Karl Joseph Morzin, leading the Count’s small orchestra and writing the first of his symphonies. ♫ In 1760 he married Maria Keller. They had a very unhappy marriage, producing no children. ♫ In 1760 Count Paul Andre Esterhazy (one of the wealthiest and most important nobles in the Austrian empire) hired him as assistant director of music. In 1766 at the age of 34, Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy appointed Haydn his Director of Music. His job was divided between the Esterhazy palace in Austria their palace across the border Hungary. ♫ Haydn dedicated Piano Sonata 40 to Princess Marie Esterhazy. He worked for the Esterhazys for the next 28 years, writing hundreds of pieces of music for the prince. After about 15 years, he signed a new contract allowing him to write music for other customers. Haydn’s reputation grew to international fame. ♫ Haydn wrote 104 Symphonies. (Some count 107.) Not unlike George Washington, nicknamed the “Father of our Countryâ€, yet had no children, Haydn is known as the “Father of the Symphony.†and the “Father of the string Quartet.†♫ Napoleon captured Vienna in 1809. Napoleon, himself, ordered an honor guard be placed at Haydn’s home where Haydn lay dying. ♫ The Classical Music for Tablet Series offers piano masterworks by classical composers formatted to be read on 10 inch tablets. I use an Amazon Kindle with Mobile Sheets Pro and an Air Turn blue tooth foot pedal to practice and perform piano music. Similar products available to provide other tablets the same functionality. ♫ The pieces in this series have not been arranged, but most have been edited slightly, and have been formatted to fit this screen size. For example, in the tablet versions, first and second endings are often removed and the repeated measures and endings written into the music so the performer can avoid having to go back to previous pages. These kinds of section repeats were invented to spare the composer’s time and the cost of extra paper and ink. But with a tablet the cost of paper and ink is irrelevant. ♫ Although there are a lot more page turns with a 10 inch screen compared with letter size pages, the readability of the music (due to the backlighting on the tablet) and the portability of the music (travelling with a small tablet instead of oversized books or portfolios of sheet music) easily makes up for the extra page turns. ♫ Your purchase provides one .pdf file that contains both the tablet edition and the letter size page (printable) version. There are several programs available online that will allow you to separate this .pdf file into 2 .pdf files to make it more useful.

Composed by Traditional/Anonymous. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical,Early Music,Folk,Traditional. Individual part. 42 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #768069. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1167701).

This is the thirtieth-fourth volume of an extensive collection of folk songs arranged for the classical guitar mostly in two-part counterpoint. The arrangements are of moderate difficulty and the aims of this publication are to familiarise, entertain and educate guitarists (and other musicians) with a melodic repertoire of lasting aesthetic value, under the light of contrapuntal treatment. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all  volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Therefore the size of the staves is bigger than usual for ease of reading on a small screen but not big enough to exceed the limit of a two-page view.
Active internal links for navigating from thematic indexes to particular songs and back to indexes have been added, and also external internet links to sites that give further information for the 945 songs of this first collection for classical guitar.

Composed by Julius Schulhoff. Edited by Robert Schafer and Wilhelm Ohmen. This edition: Sheet music. (c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. 3 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53316. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53316).

Julius Schulhoff grew up as the son of wealthy Jewish parents in Prague, where he received piano and music theory lessons. Following his first performances in Dresden and Leipzig, he moved to Paris in the mid-1840s and was active there as a virtuoso pianist. Chopin is said to have shaken his hand after a performance, saying: ‘Vous êtes un vrai artiste, un collègue.’ (You are a true artist, a colleague.) Concert tours in England, Spain and Russia followed. However, over time, he gave up his career as a soloist and devoted himself entirely to teaching and composing, first in Paris, from 1870 in Dresden, later in Berlin, where he was appointed Professor a year before his death. His virtuoso salon music for piano includes a large sonata, studies, caprices, impromptus, nocturnes, waltzes and mazurkas. This short ‘album leaf’ was published by Schott in 1852 (plate number 12059).

Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Frank Michael. This edition: performance score. Downloadable, Performance score. Op. 113. Duration 17' 30. Musikverlag Zimmermann - Digital #Q54435. Published by Musikverlag Zimmermann - Digital (S9.Q54435).

German • English • French.

As the originals were arranged for female voices, the canons by Johannes Brahms are - except for a few necessary transpositions - well suited for a transcription, all the more so since there are few romantic pieces for the flute of such high quality which can at the same time be played so easily. The Canons VI, VII, IX and XIII are double canons: each flute plays its own part, the same applies to canon IV. In the remaining canons, the 1st part is played solo up to the first double bar, then the 2nd flute enters playing the first part while the 1st flute starts at the beginning of the 2nd staff, and so on. This rotation method holds true for flutes I-IV as of bar 28 in the 6-part double canon XIII.

John Stepan Zamecnik (1872-1953) enjoyed a substantial career as a silent film music composer, culminating in his scoring the motion picture Wings in 1927, which won the first Academy Award for Best Picture. He was also an accomplished violinist. These twelve short pieces for violin and piano originally appeared in 1922 as Violin Compositions in the First Position, Vol. 1, published by the Sam Fox Publishing Company. Created for teaching purposes, they are much more than études or exercises-they are melodic miniatures that capture various moods, rhythms and styles with as much charm as Zamecnik’s best film music. They provide fresh and engaging concert repertoire for emerging string players, both as solos and string ensemble pieces. It is with these purposes in mind that the current edition including an optional second string part has been created.

12 Pieces from the Poem of Rainer Maria Rilke. Composed by Viktor Ullmann. This edition: vocal/piano score. Downloadable, Piano reduction. Duration 25 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q22787. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q22787).

German.

Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke obviously is the last work outlined by Viktor Ullmann in the concentration camp ofTheresienstadt. Other than with the two symphonies developing from the piano sonatas Nos. 5 and 7, Ullmann apparently thought of an orchestral melodrama first, it was only later that the note for recitant and orchestra or piano was added. This version of the work is known to be performed several times in Theresienstadt. Only the first piece had been orchestrated by Ullmann himself, but he had written down the essentials of the orchestration in the hardly decipherable manuscript in great detail. Ullmann chose 12 sections from the prose work by Rainer Maria Rilke, shortening the plot sensibly. Except for the elimination of some sentences which refer to the rose-petal episode and which are incomprehensible without the framework plot, the borrowed texts are unabridged. According to an instruction by Ullmann in the autograph, the text indicated above the staves is only roughly coincident with the music.
