Josef Strauss, second born od the three Strauss brothers wrote this quick polka in winter 1862 to be performed during the Carnival season in Vienna. It was first performed there in March 1862. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg. H.M.S. Pinafore is an operetta in two acts with music by Arthur Sullivan. It was premiered on 25 May 1878 in London theatre Opera comique and had one  of the highest performance rates of that time. The story is about love between people of different society classes on board of the British warship H.M.S. Pinafore  and mocks so about the British class system.  The arrangement of the overture is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra. Is was first time performed by Salzburg Wind  Philharmonic conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2023 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in  Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. The French composer Jean Françaix arranged Mozart's Quintet in E flat major for four wind instruments and piano in 1995. He maintained the original parts for oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, yet transcribed the piano part for a string quartet and a double-bass. Mozart's complex piano quintet from 1784 is one of the most important contributions to the genre of quintet for piano and wind instruments. The brilliant transcription of the solemn and sometimes sparkling piano part for the string parts by Françaix is another proof of his lifelong admiration and study of Mozart. The clever arrangement of this work, so full of intensity and depth, for larger chamber music ensemble has already been performed at various festivals and is now available as a printed edition for the first time.

German Composer Max Bruch (1838-1920) completed this work in 1880 whilst in Liverpool, England. It is dedicated to - and premiered by - Robert Hausmann, who had requested a cello piece from Bruch. The work is styled as an ‘Adagio on 2 Hebrew Melodies’. The first theme, which gives the work its title, imitates the voice of the cantor who chants the liturgy during the evening service on every Yom Kippur. The second theme is derived from English composer Isaac Nathan’s arrangement of Byron’s O weep for Those that Wept on Babel’s Stream and is given a more Schumannesque treatment in the tonic major key. 

Although originally scored for full orchestra, the work is frequently and effectively performed with piano accompaniment. It is a popular recital piece.

Barbara Heller dedicated this chorale to the memory of Elke Mascha Blankenburg (1943–2013). Talking about her before the first performance, the composer said: ‘She was open-hearted with a really tender soul, very trusting. Her creativity knew no limits; she was also an almost fanatical campaigner for music by women. In the music you will hear now I have attempted to convey some aspects of her personality: charming, loving, obstinate, committed, volatile, tragic, crazy, untamed, tender and anguished.’ The various sections of this chorale may be performed in a correspondingly contrasting manner: searching, hesitant, visionary, focused, volatile, accusatory, hopeful, etc., with use of rubato and powerful contrasts in dynamic and tone quality. The registration for this edition was devised in the Church of the Resurrection in Fürth. It is a model that may be adapted freely for other organs, perhaps substituting new and different sound features. Also available for clarinet and organ (KLB 99).

The composer and organist Paul Siefert, baptized in Gdansk on 28 June 1586 and died there on 6 May 1666, belongs to the 'North German organ school'. Thanks to a grant of the town council of Gdansk, Siefert spent the years from 1607 until probably late 1610 studying in Amsterdam where he got important ideas and suggestions as a pupil of Sweelinck. After his return he became deputy organist in Gdansk. From 1611 to 1616 he worked as an organist first at the church in the old town of Königsberg, then at the Warsaw court orchestra. On 23 September 1623 he was appointed organist at the Marienkirche of Gdansk in succession to Michael Weyda where he worked until the end of his life. This edition of his organ works contains 13 fantasias, two chorale preludes and a motet as well as a detailed description of the work in the preface and in the critical report.

Louis Drouet (1792-1873), much admired virtuoso flautist, composer, musical director and opera director, was 'a flautist of truly European standing and sphere of influence'. His method still forms part of today's standard teaching repertoire. The 'Little Sonatas' published here for the first time as a separate new edition constitute the final part of Part 3 of his method. In accordance with the remarks of Drouet who had two different performance versions in mind, the sonatas are available in two instrumentations: for two flutes and for flute and piano. The piano accompaniment, with its figured bass realized by Gottfried Bach, has been turned into a harmonic accompaniment.

Die Libelle (The Dragon-fly) is a polka-mazurka by Josef Strauss, who was said to be the most talented of the three Strauss brothers. He was  inspired to this piece during a visit with his wife Caroline at the lake Traunsee, where he observed dragon-flies flying on the water surface. It  premiered on 21 October 1866. Flags of Freedom was composed in 1918, and the referenced edition was made Public Domain in 2019. The piece is catalogued as Volume 5, No. 84.

Each instrument follows its full-band part as often as possible, the only exception being Trombone covering the Euphonium/Baritone part. This edition presents the first of the six sonatas for cello and basso op. 28 by French cellist and composer Jean-Baptiste Breval (1753-1823).

Its second movement (Rondo) is what Louis Feuillard used to arrange the Rondo of the so-called Second Concerto by Breval. This Critical Edition repairs this by publishing a version faithful to the text and to the composer's intent.

The solo cello part contains fingering and bowing suggestions by Yuriy Leonovich.

With this edition, Schott publishes the early two-movement string quartet by Bernd Alois Zimmermann for the first time. In a letter the composer wrote: 'I am still messing around with my quartet. This probably is the most concentrated work of composition - and the most abstract.' The string quartet belongs within the context of his early works which focussed on chamber music, unlike those of later years. Until 1945, he created a number of piano pieces and songs, a Suite for Violin and Piano as well as a String Trio (ED 7563).
