A collection of five of my settings of African American Spirituals, rearranged for piano trio. There are titles appropriate for different seasons in the church year, including Christmas, as well as for general concert use. The titles are  Go Down, Moses, Rise Up, Shepherd, Tell It On The Mountain, Calvary, Sinner, Please Don't Let This Harvest Pass and Oh Glory! For advanced intermediate to more advanced performers, the styles are influenced by Traditional, Jazz and Gospel interpretations. The violin and cello parts are appended to the full score; the audio sample is of Go Down, Moses.

Scott Joplin is celebrated as the United States’ first well-known black composer, making his name as a writer of piano rags. His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Few remembered Joplin’s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the world’s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers.

The duets included in this collection are, The Entertainer, The Maple Leaf Rag, The Easy Winners, The Elite Syncopations and The Favorite.

They have been arranged as duets for one Oboe and one Cor Anglais (or English Horn), and include all sections of the original compositions. The YouTube link showcases the clarinet version of these duets. The duets are suitable for players at an intermediate and and advanced intermediate level. Musicians will find these Ragtime duets ideal for formal and informal performances, light and fun, yet still a serious and vitally important part of the American musical heritage. The overall performance time for all five is around 25 minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using these arrangements as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.

 A Minuet, sometimes spelled Menuet or Menuett, is a social dance of French origin from around the 1660s, usually in 3/4 time. The minuet was to 18th century ballrooms what the Waltz would be in the 19th century, the enduring Queen of dances. The Quadrille is a dance that was fashionable in late 18th- and 19th-century Europe and its colonies. The quadrille consists of a chain of four to six contredanses.

Here We Go is a collection of five easy and attractive pieces for double bass (or bass guitar) and piano. They are written in easy keys for double bass and remain in first position throughout, though one of the pieces uses half position. Any of these pieces can be used at a student concert or recital or can be used as sight-reading exercises. They are all very short and are sure to be popular with students and audiences alike.
