The Austrian composer Johann Georg Albrechtsberger was an organist, teacher and theorist, indeed one of his many influential pupils was a certain Ludwig Van Beethoven. His own musical works were and still are a tour-de-force and widely recorded. In fact his Alto Trombone Concerto is very much a part of the repertoire for that instrument. He also wrote, what might be today regarded as quite strange, no less than 7 Concerti for the Jaws Harp and String Orchestra.

The 5 pieces here are representative of his masterly fugal output, tweaked here and there to suit the Clarinet Quartet format!

Take Five is a jazz standard composed by Paul Desmond and originally recorded by the Dave Brubeck Quartet for its 1959 album Time Out. Made at Columbia Records' 30th Street Studio in New York City on July 1, 1959, fully two years later it became an unlikely hit and the biggest-selling jazz single ever. Revived since in numerous movie and television soundtracks, the piece still receives significant radio airplay.

This arrangement for clarinet quartet (set of parts: Bb Clarinet 1 or Eb Clarinet, Bb Clarinet 2, Bb Clarinet 3 or Eb Alto Clarinet, Bb Bass Clarinet) includes two different keys: the original Eb Minor and a more comfortable F Minor.

Scriabin's Op. 74, specifically the Five Preludes, is significant for its innovative harmonic system based on the Mystic Chord. Scriabin's use of the acoustic scale as a set, known as the Mystic Chord, revolutionized traditional tonal gravity and functionality in his compositions. The tritone plays a crucial role in his harmonic construction and formal definition, often leading to sections returning at tritone transpositions. Despite the absence of tonal gravity, Scriabin assigns a pitch-center to his pieces, redefining tonal orientation through the primary transposition of the Mystic Chord. These preludes, composed in 1914 before he died in 1915, showcase Scriabin's mastery of harmonies and his departure from traditional tonalities.
