In recognition of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Edward Elgar in 2007, I celebrated one of my favorite composers with a series of transcriptions - particularly this chamber transcription for violin, flute and piano of the ninth (and probably the most famous and best-loved) variation, Nimrod, opus 36, from his orchestral work, ENIGMA VARIATIONS - My Friends Pictured Within. Elgar had written a special program note ...the Variation bearing this name (Nimrod) is a record of a long summer evening talk, when my friend - A.J. Jaeger - grew nobly eloquent on the grandeur of Beethoven and especially of his slow movements. A reference to the Adagio of the Pathétique Sonata is therefore seen in the opening bars of the Nimrod Variation. Your download includes separate violin and flute parts, and piano score.

Josef Anton Bruckner was a deeply religious man.  Born in Austria, his father was his first music teacher who taught him to play the organ.  It was noted that he was so dedicated to music that he often practiced up to 12 hours a day.This Ave Maria was performed during his debut as a composer and conductor in 1861.  It was later published in Vienna in 1867.Although this is a sacred motet, as an instrumental piece, it can be performed in any setting.  Scored for flute choir - 5 C, alto, and bass.  Optional parts are contrabass and cello (doubling the bass part).  This is not a difficult piece, but it requires good breath support to sustain long tones in tune at a slow tempo.Duration: 2.5 minutes.
