The First Nowell, also known as The First Noel (or Noël), is a traditional English Christmas carol with Cornish origins, most likely from the early modern period, although possibly earlier. Nowell is an Early Modern English synonym of Christmas from French Noël the Christmas season, ultimately from Latin natalis [dies] [day] of birth. The word was regularly used in the burden of carols in the middle ages towards the early modern period.

Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C Major was written with an ear towards one of his idols, a certain 18th century composer by the name of Mozart. The title and structure of the piece are taken from the serenades of the latter, though this is certainly Tchaikovsky's own particularly 19th century rendering of these older ideas. That it is a masterful work, is demonstrated by the fact that it still remains among the most performed and appreciated by the public alongside the serenades by Antonín Dvořák and Josef Suk. The final movement begins with slow and subdued section, based on a Russian folk song, stands in stark contrast to the core of the movement, which is a very quick-paced and rollicking finale based on another Russian folk melody—this time a dance tune. This dance tune spins out and gives the orchestra a rather strenuous workout. It is almost as if the piece is continually building and building, seemingly getting faster, until Tchaikovsky channels the inventiveness and unpredictability of his beloved Mozart. Suite bergamasque (L. 75) is a piano suite by Claude Debussy. He began composing it around 1890, at the age of 28, but significantly revised it just before its 1905 publication. The popularity of the 3rd movement, Clair de lune, has made it one of the composer's most famous works for piano, as well as one of the most famous piano compositions of all-time. This arrangement for flute quartet (Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4 or Alto Flute) of the 1st movement, Prelude, is in the key of F major and marked moderato tempo rubato.
