The Little Nigar is the original title by composer Claude Debussy for a short piece for piano, composed in 1909 for a piano method and published the same year. It was later also published as a single piece, entitled The Little Negro and Le petit nègre. Debussy regularly sought exotic influences. In The Little Nigar, he alluded to banjo chords and drums, influenced by American minstrel shows. The piece, marked allegro, begins with a first theme presenting jazzy syncopes in 2/4 time, in the then popular ragtime style.

This arrangement for flute quartet includes the following parts: Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4 or Alto Flute.

This works well as a concert piece or just for fun! I composed this in a coffee shop in Moreton-in-Marsh on June 30th 2017. I was drinking a coffee, tea and sparkling water all at the same time! Each instrument gets part of the tune.

Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C Major was written with an ear towards one of his idols, a certain 18th century composer by the name of Mozart. The title and structure of the piece are taken from the serenades of the latter, though this is certainly Tchaikovsky's own particularly 19th century rendering of these older ideas. That it is a masterful work, is demonstrated by the fact that it still remains among the most performed and appreciated by the public alongside the serenades by Antonín Dvořák and Josef Suk. This arrangement for flute quartet (Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4 or Alto Flute) reflects faithfully the original and is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital. It contains all the four movements of the serenade: 1) Pezzo in forma di sonatina 2) Walzer 3) Elegie 4) Finale (Tema russo).
