I tried to capture as much of it while adapting it to the guitars limited scope (regarding pitch range and dynamics compared to a piano) focusing on fluidity and harmonic conformance. For some parts (which might be difficult especially for players with smaller hands) the guitar score offers alternative fingerings, feel free to use whatever single alternative bar fits your taste. The download contains a score and parts, as well as a guitar tab and chord diagrams for easier accessibility.Edit: the most current download is a complete overhaul. It now contains two levels for guitar, an advanced close to piano notation and a new gig-proofed notation which is much easier to render (advanced intermediate level), both as score and tablature.

This arrangement avoids the obvious piano chords in the vocal parts, focusing more on melodic polyphony. It is not too difficult to put together and has exciting parts for all singers. I've also done optional parts for the sax/guitar solo in the middle; these are provided in C (treble and bass clefs), B flat and E flat to cater for almost any solo instrument you have available to play it (possibly a choir member?). This solo should be loud and raucous! The piece still works perfectly well without, however. It is great to perform and to listen to for the audience. Enjoy!

Maggiolata is the Italian name of an ancient Spring Festival celebrated on May 1st, hence the subtitle Song of May. Jeno Hubay, Head of the Violin Dept at the Budapest Academy of Music, wrote this piece to be as light and celebratory as a perfect spring day. My arrangement abridges and slightly simplifies this classical standard. I reduced it from 6 1/2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes by focusing on the recapitulation of the main theme but also included opening and closing cadenzas. Most of the expression markings are my own additions. I have scored it as an Instrumental Solo with an Organ accompaniment but a Piano accompaniment could be easily adapted from this. This is a great piece to start focusing on tone and intonation for beginning instrumentalists. Definitely  a great addition for proper band warm-ups and concert program piece.
