String Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1306512

By string orchestra. By Traditional Fiddle Tune. Arranged by Paul Hemmer. 19th Century,Country,Folk,Traditional. Score and Parts. 21 pages. PJMS MUSIC #895866. Published by PJMS MUSIC (A0.1306512).

This traditional fiddle tune was inspired Julien Dubuqu, the lead miner/fur trader who established the first community on the Mississippi River where now is the City of Dubuque, Iowa. According to tradition and legend, Dubuque was an accomplished fiddler who would dance while performing. Inspired by a performance observed when Julien was visiting St. Louis, a fiddler composed the basis for this composition in 1800.

This arrangement for String Orchestra is a lively feature that will delight performers and audience alike.

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David McKeown. Folk,Hanukkah,Jewish,World. Score and parts. 6 pages. David McKeown #6017101. Published by David McKeown (A0.588434).

7.40pm is a traditional Russian Jewish tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Alto and one Tenor Saxophone.

It isn’t completely clear where the title 7.40pm comes from. One interpretation is that 7.40pm was the time the Odessa tram conductors finished work and danced to this tune. But there are versions titled 7.40am which may refer to the time of Jewish early morning prayers. Whatever the origin, there are several Russian recordings of 7.40pm that predate the 1917 revolution.

7.40pm is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo.  7.40pm is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of 7.40pm is perfect for recital and concert performances, both formal and informal. Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Chris Webster. Folk. Score (Chords/Lyrics). 5 pages. Chris Webster #803474. Published by Chris Webster (A0.1205287).

The Folk Uke series offers a musical construction kit for traditional folk songs. Each song begins with the vocal part set for medium voice with chords for ukulele. This is followed by a fingerstyle accompaniment and a ukulele solo with introduction and coda. These different parts can be assembled in different ways, for example, very simply, with voice and strummed chords, or more elaborately: intro, verse 1 with chords, verse 2 with fingerstyle accompaniment followed by the solo, verse 3, etc., or as a duet, with uke 1 playing the melody and uke 2 playing chords or fingerstyle accompaniment.

The Golden Vanity is a popular folk song with many variants in tune and lyrics. It has been recorded by several well-known artists such as Pete Seeger, Steeleye Span and Peter, Paul and Mary. This version was collected orally by the arranger in Cambridgeshire. It is here arranged for voice and ukulele with re-entrant GCEA tuning. The audio sample is the Intro, Solo and Coda.

SKU: A0.1357822

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Folk,Sacred,Traditional. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #942325. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1357822).

“Holy Spirit, Faithful Guide†pairs a text by Marcus Morris Wells (1815-1895) with the Scottish/Irish folk melody “WILD MOUNTAIN THYME.â€

Little is known of Wells, who was converted to Christianity as a youth at a mission in Buffalo, New York and spent most of his life near Hartwick, New York as a farmer and maker of farm implements. “Holy Spirit, Faithful Guide†appears to be his single, memorable hymn; according to the website hymnary.org, it has appeared in 675 hymnals since its publication in 1858.

The tune used as the basis of this arrangement is known variously as “Wild Mountain Thyme,†“Purple Heather,†and “Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go?†and is a variant of the song “The Braes of Balquhither†by Scottish poet Robert Tannahill (1774–1810) and Scottish composer Robert Archibald Smith (1780–1829), adapted by Belfast musician Francis McPeake (1885–1971) into “Wild Mountain Thyme.†This simple folk melody is ideally suited to the simple, personal sentiment of Wells’ text.

SKU: A0.1287891

Composed by Matthew Saayman. Arranged by Matthew Saayman. Celtic,Chamber,Classical,Folk,Irish,Traditional. 44 pages. Matthew Saayman #878978. Published by Matthew Saayman (A0.1287891).

Folk Songs and Dances for the Summer contains eight original arrangements and compositions for violin and piano accompaniment. Among these songs are a meditative version of the Irish tune Blind Mary, a fiery rendition of Drowsy Maggie, as well as folk-inspired Country Dances. The arrangements range from expressive and plaintive to spirited and triumphant.

In terms of difficulty, most of the arrangements move at a brisk pace and are suitable for advanced players.  For piano, this involves fast-moving and leaping chords in both hands, contrary moving scales, and arpeggiation. For violin, this involves double-stops, scales, awkward rhythmic patterns.

Composed by Traditional/Anonymous. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical,Early Music,Folk,Traditional. Individual part. 44 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #753011. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1152774).

This is the eighth volume of an extensive collection of folk songs arranged for the classical guitar mostly in two-part counterpoint. The arrangements are of moderate difficulty and the aims of this publication are to familiarise, entertain and educate guitarists (and other musicians) with a melodic repertoire of lasting aesthetic value, under the light of contrapuntal treatment. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Therefore the size of the staves is bigger than usual for ease of reading on a small screen but not big enough to exceed the limit of a two-page view. Active internal links for navigating from thematic indexes to particular songs and back to indexes have been added, and also external internet links to sites that give further information for the 945 songs of this first collection for classical guitar.

Hårgalåten, or the Harga song, is a Swedish folk song. The song is connected to a 1785 story published by Johan Gabriel Lindstrom. The song describes how a mysterious fiddler came to the community near Hårgaberget or Harga mountain, and played the fiddle. The youth danced to the tune that the fiddler played and they were unable to stop. Some of the youth noticed a cloven hoof, leading them to believe the fiddler was demonic. Even as morning came, the adults noticed they were all still dancing, and the fiddler still fiddling. Later, the dancers started dropping dead from exhaustion. Score and individual parts are included.
