Baritone Horn TC,Bass Trombone,Cornet,E-Flat Tuba TC,Euphonium,Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.752371 Composed by Rob Bushnell. Contemporary. 27 pages. RBMusic #4888989. Published by RBMusic (A0.752371). This piece was written in March 2008 to open the Leeds University Union Music Society (LUUMS) Wind Band's concert that took place on 27th April 2008. It features the brass (3 trumpets and 3 trombones) and percussion (drum kit, timpani and vibraphone). The title comes from University Challenge, where the initial question per set of questions (or the starter question) is worth 10 points, hence the quizmaster saying Here's your starter for ten.The piece is a great piece to start a concert with, perfect for junior and senior/professional ensembles alike. It has alternative parts so that other members of the brass family (French horns, tenor horns and tubas, as well as parts in treble clef) can either be substituted for the originals or can also play to ensure no brass player misses out. It will work for larger ensembles such as orchestras, wind/concert bands, military bands and brass bands, as well as smaller ensembles from brass sextets to brass dectets (assuming a drummer can be found). And the beginning can also feature the non-brass/percussion players with jungle-like sounds (optional, of course).

A collection of six duets and six trios written with the youngest players in mind!Ranges limited so that students can focus on rhythmic accuracy, tone quality, dynamics, and expression.Rhythms are limited to whole, dotted half, half, quarter, and paired eighth notes. Rhythms that even the youngest musicians can count! No syncopation! Each piece is about one minute in length to accommodate the limited stamina of younger players.A variety of styles and moods to motivate studentsEvery measure of each part is numbered! You're welcome! Duets may be performed by any two instruments, with like or mixed instrumentation, but if you use mixed instrumentation you may have better results if upper instruments play the top line and lower instruments play the bottom line. Also, it may be preferable to avoid having two tubas, as the results may be less desirable.Trios should be performed by two higher pitched instruments and one lower pitched instrument. Parts 1 and 2 could be flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, or horn. Piano,Viola - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549240 Composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 17 pages. Jmsgu3 #3473581. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549240). Flight of the Bumblebee from Korsakov's Tale of Tsar Saltan Score: 11 pages, Solo part: 3 pages, Piano accompaniment part: 3 pages. Duration: ca. 1:15 Amaze your listeners with this short but great recital encore! Flight of the Bumblebee Flight of the Bumblebee is, to be sure, an orchestral interlude composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Korsakov, of course, intended to musically portray the chaotic flying pattern of a bumblebee. Nowadays, this piece is one of the comparatively more famous classical works because it frequently appears from time to time in popular culture. In the opera, the piece appears notably at the close of Act III, Tableau 1. This is when the magic Swan-Bird, in fact, changes the Prince (the son of the Tsar) into a bee so he can fly away to visit his father. Interestingly, at this point in the drama, his father, in effect, does not know that he is alive.   Korsakov Background Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844 –1908) was a uniquely famous composer from Russia. He was likewise a member of an infamous assembly of composers called The Five. Korsakov was furthermore an expert in orchestration. His correspondingly most famous orchestral compositions-Capriccio Espagnol, the Russian Easter Festival Overture, and the Scheherazade suite-are important monuments of the standard music repertoire.  Also, comparatively very important are his suites and excerpts from his 15 operas. Korsakov was moreover fond of using Russian folklore and fairy tales in his music, such as Scheherazade.  Nationalistic Style Korsakov believed, similarly to fellow outspoken composer Balakirev, in creating a nationalistic, Russia-centric style of classical music. The new style was in fact called Orientalism. It similarly relied on native Russian materials, exotic scales, and experimental harmonic, melodic and rhythmic procedures. This practice, conversely, ran counter to the developments in Western musical culture. Musical Developments Nevertheless, Korsakov developed an appreciation of Western musical techniques after he became a professor of musical composition, harmony, and orchestration at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1871. Moreover, he undertook a rigorous three-year program of self-education and mastered Western methods, incorporating them in conjunction with the influences of Mikhail Glinka and other members of The Five. His techniques of composition and orchestration were additionally enriched by his exposure to the works of Richard Wagner. Naval Service Korsakov combined his music career accordingly with a career in the Russian military. He was in the first place an officer in the Russian Navy. In due time, he was appointed as a civilian Inspector of Naval Bands. As a result, Korsakov expanded his knowledge of woodwind and brass playing, which in turn heightened his capabilities in orchestration. Legacy Korsakov in due time contributed a significant number of Russian nationalist works. He also prepared, from time to time, compositions by The Five for presentation. This brought their works straightaway into the active classical repertoire as well. He also shaped an entire generation of younger composers during his time as a music educator. Therefore, music historians consider Korsakov as the foremost engineer of what the public considers to be the Russian style of composition. He served, all in all, as a transitional figure between The Five and the classically trained composers who became the norm over time. In addition to the Russians, he forthwith influenced non-Russian composers such as Ravel, Debussy, Dukas, and Respighi.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.750863 Composed by Brendan Elliget MAGA 537. Contemporary. Score and parts. 123 pages. BJE Music #4319867. Published by BJE Music (A0.750863). Shades of Eltham (Eltham Concert Band - 35 Years of Music) - Concert Band VersionDedicated to Ern and Beattie Shade for their contribution to the Eltham Concert Band. The title of this piece is a play on words, of course, indicating both the Shades themselves and the various shades or moods of the music or even perhaps, the shady bushland setting of the area itself. I composed this piece with a few simple ideas in mind. The letters E and A in the word Eltham suggested to me an interval of a fourth, or the other way around, an interval of a fifth – which are both used in many of entries of the themes and musical motifs throughout the work – especially the brass. There are several variations and counter melodies within the work: a bright two-four march-like theme, probably the Main theme, and a variation of this theme in slower three-four time in a minor key with two counter melodies - representing a gentler contrasting mood. On occasions, two or even three themes play simultaneously. A bridging passage in four-four occurs about the two thirds into the composition leading up to a restatement of the main theme. The final climax or Coda actually has both three four melody against the two-four one resolving in the last few bars in a dramatic way.I hope you enjoy my musical tribute to the Shades. The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer. Now available as an orchestral arrangement as well. See Related Scores.

Arranged by Rob Bushnell. Classical. Brass Band. 105 pages. RBMusic #2924253. Published by RBMusic (A0.752286). ‘Der Schauspieldirektor’ (or ‘The Impresario’), by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was one of two works commissioned by the Austrian Emperor Joseph II for a competition he held in the Orangery at Schönbrunn in 1786. The competition was conceived in an attempt to prove that the German Singspiel - comedy with music - had become as popular as the Italian Opera Buffa - opera where musical numbers were linked by sung recitatives. The Italian entry was written by Antonio Salieri and, to the disappointment of the Emperor, he won the contest (leading to ‘Der Schauspieldirektor’ being one of Mozart’s least performed works). However, considering that it was commission around the time that he was busy writing his comedy ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ (or ‘The Marriage of Figaro’), this really comes as no surprise. ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ was not only an instant success, with 5 numbers encored at its premiere on 1 May 1786 at the Burgtheater in Vienna, but it had also not just lost a music competition. This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. The MP3 audio clip is a live performance by a scratch band who had limited rehearsal time. An additional live performance of the piece can be found here (quality is reasonable): https://youtu.be/h7ptPsD3_nE
