Large Ensemble Alto Saxophone,B-Flat Trumpet,Baritone Saxophone,Horn,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone,Tenor Trombone,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1036423 Composed by P. F. Strohm. 20th Century,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Jazz. Score and parts. 108 pages. Pete Strohm Music #641446. Published by Pete Strohm Music (A0.1036423). Dialogue (for Brass and Saxophone Ensemble), from American composer P. F. Strohm, is an up-tempo, jazz-based work written for a unique 10-part ensemble, comprised of a brass quintet (two Trumpets, Horn, Trombone and Tuba), and a saxophone quintet (Soprano, Alto 2 Tenors, Baritone with low A key). It employs two quintet groupings to create straight-ahead, ensemble energy. The two quintets trade off melodic and rhythmic figures throughout the opening. In the mid-section, two trumpets and the soprano sax trade solo lines, then combine in a riveting climax. The two quintets then trade tight, challenging phrases as the piece rockets to a big tutti ending. Dialogue is an exciting work for ensembles with players looking for more modern and demanding parts. If you already have a big band and want to give the horns their own showpiece without the rhythm players, this would be ideal (if you have the Horn and Tuba available)! Medium-Advanced level of difficulty. Performance time is 4:00. Member, ASCAP.

Mixed Percussion B-Flat Tuba,B-Flat trombone,Baritone Horn TC/Euphonium,Bass Trombone,E-Flat Cornet,E-Flat Tenor Horn,E-Flat Tuba TC,Flugelhorn,Percussion 1,Percussion 2,Tenor Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465030 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Rob Bushnell. 20th Century,Classical,Romantic Period,Traditional. Brass Band. 105 pages. Rob Bushnell #1043488. Published by Rob Bushnell (A0.1465030). A Fugal Overture was written in 1922 by Gustav Holst. It was first performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden on 14 May 1923 and was used as an opening work to Holst’s one-act opera The Perfect Fool. It received its concert premiere on 11 October 1923 at one of Henry Wood’s Queen’s Hall Promenade Concerts. It is an early example of neoclassicism and was influenced by the counterpoint of J. S. Bach, despite its unconventional use of the fugal process.Holst began writing the piece in the summer of 1922, having hoped to develop it into a ballet. It is divided into three sections, the fugal subject with its distinct 3+3+2 pattern, a slower section with solos at the end, and a third section where the subject returns.Although reviews of the piece were mixed at the time of its premiere, the likes of Adrian Boult have said it was “an invigorating work that could effectively start any […] concert. In more recent years, it has been compared to John Adam’s A Short Ride in a Fast Machine. This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. A recording of the original composition can be found here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8xfwJyFq2E.
