Typically, it has three beats per measure, and the second beat is to be slightly accentuated. Chopin wrote over fifty mazurkas for the piano, and this is one of the shortest.

It has neither an introduction nor a coda, and the theme strikes one with its firmness and grace. As Jan KleczyÅ„ski put it, ‘Each note, each accent, glows with life and power’.
