Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: AX.00-PC-0017051_AX1 E-flat Alto Saxophone. Composed by Percy Aldridge Grainger. Arranged by Thomas P. Rohrer. Instructional. Part. 2 pages. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PC-0017051_AX1. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PC-0017051_AX1). UPC: 038081498232.This delightful Grainger classic was written to depict a jolly old George Friedrich Handel careening down the Strand (the theatre district of London) accompanied by the English popular music of the day. Given the original instrumentation and label as a chamber piece in Grainger's original publication, this transcription is taken directly from Grainger's four-some edition of 1912, transposed down a step from G to F major. It is scored to best depict the light (and sometimes percussive) quality of the piano along with the lyrical flow of the strings and the general character of chamber music. Ultimately, the room music quality of the original shines through in this skillful transcription while depicting the spirit of the piece in a way that Grainger might have chosen. (3:35)Concert/Contest.

It was at a musical morning concert at the home of the violinist de Cuvillon. She sang a song of her own composition ‚La Source, in which she accompanied herself. I was struck by the fluidity of her playing, which purely and without useless inflections, was quite close to my way of viewing music. This unified and tranquil style came out of her studies with Chopin.” Camille Saint-Saëns: Quelques mots sur l’exécution des œuvres de Chopin, in: “Le courrier musical de Paris” 13 [1910], S. 386).  At first writing mostly sacred music, most of her public success was due to her comic operas: la Comtesse Eva, la Pénitente, Piccolino and Mazeppa. Arte Nova Music Lab #3001103. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742386). Franz Xaver Chwatal (19 June 1808 – 24 June 1879) was a Bohemian pianist, composer and music teacher. Chwatal was born in Rumburk, Bohemia (in the modern Czech Republic). He was the son of an organ builder, who gave him piano lessons as a child. From 1822 to 1832 he worked as a music teacher in Merseburg, where he created his first compositions. From 1835, he worked as a music teacher in Magdeburg. In the 1850s, he travelled with Christian Friedrich Ehrlich to the Institute für Gemeinschaftlichen Clavierunterricht (Institute for Community Piano Lessons). He composed numerous pieces of music.
