Composed by David Newman. Arranged by Laird Halling. Film/TV,Pop. 32 pages. Laird Halling #943417. Published by Laird Halling (A0.1358993).

This full orchestra arrangement of the theme from the movie Galaxy Quest makes a great short opener for a pops concert or sci-fi themed program.

Galaxy Quest is a 1999 American science fiction comedy film directed by Dean Parisot and written by David Howard and Robert Gordon. A parody of and homage to science-fiction films and series, especially Star Trek and its fandom, the film stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and Daryl Mitchell. It depicts the cast of a fictional defunct cult television series, Galaxy Quest, who are visited by actual aliens who think the series is an accurate documentary, and drawn into a very real intergalactic conflict.

Composed by Kevin G. Pace (ASCAP), Mark R. Fotheringham. Christian,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred,Spiritual. 2 pages. Kevin G. Pace #944619. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.1360130).

A beautiful, sacred hymn based on Galatians 2:20.  Music by Kevin G. Pace.  Text by Mark R. Fotheringham.

Text:
Striving to do the right, Christ lives in me.
Seeking to show His light, reverently.
Looking to Him I know how I should be
Living life joyfully, Christ lives in me.
Living life joyfully, Christ lives in me.

Sorrowing for my sin, Christ lives in me.
Turning my heart again, better to be.
When I'm a prisoner, He sets me free.
Living repentantly, Christ lives in me.
Living repentantly, Christ lives in me.

When I am strong and good, Christ lives in me.
When I do as I should, clearly I see
Living by covenant, soon I may be
Thinking celestially. Christ lives in me.
Thinking celestially, Christ lives in me.

Composed by Franz von Suppe. Arranged by Flávio Régis Cunha. Concert,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 16 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #4593577. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597222).

Die schöne Galathée (The Beautiful Galatea) is an operetta in two acts by Franz von Suppé to a German libretto by the composer and 'Poly Henrion' (the pseudonym of Leonhard Kohl von Kohlenegg). This arrangement of Einmal möcht' Ich so verliebt sein (one aria of the operetta) for orchestra and soprano voice is a very good Encore or an orchestral piece for your repertoire.

Flavio Regis Cunha is a pianist, conductor and composer from São Paulo - Brasil. He is currently finishing his doctorate at Mackenzie Presbyterian University where he works as conductor of the Mackenzie University Orchestra and resident composer. For more arrangements like this, works by commission or for any questions you can contact Flavio Regis Cunha at his facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/flavioregiscunha

In the early 1860s, French operettas by Jacques Offenbach were first presented in Vienna. Franz von Suppé was obliged to compete with them by taking the time-honored traditions of Vienna and combining it with the new style of Offenbach. Die schöne Galathée was Franz von Suppé's first critical success.

The sculptor Pygmalion has fallen madly in love with his statue of Galathée and accordingly does not want to sell it to Mydas, a patron of the arts. Instead he prays to Venus, the goddess of the love, that the statue be brought to life. The wish is granted but Galathée turns out to be a very independent-minded creature. She is unfaithful to Pygmalion with his servant Ganymed (because he is much more pleasing to her than Pygmalion) and does not reject Mydas, who offers her jewelry. When Pygmalion catches Galathée in a compromising situation, he successfully implores Venus to turn her back into stone. The jewelry offered by Mydas is also turned into stone, but the whole statue is sold to him.

“Galactic Mermaid†is the song an a cappella group of drag queens, the Mermaid Sisters sang (they decided to be ‘mermaids’ since they weren’t a man or a woman and that’s what represented them best), on episode 9: Dancing Queen, of the anime television series, Carole & Tuesday. They were eliminated for their verbally explicit lyrics. [Note: According to the Urban Dictionary ‘galactic mermaid(s)’ is used when you don’t want to directly say “cuss words†at someone/somebody: ex – ‘You just hired a bunch of ‘galactic mermaids’! What were you thinking?] This arrangement is scored for solo singer with piano accompaniment. Performance time: 2:10.

Young French, Spanish, Italians and Poles rush to celebrate with a series of dances, including a musette. The ballet is interrupted by the noise of drums and trumpets. It is Bellona, goddess of war, who arrives on the stage accompanied by warriors bearing flags. Bellona calls on the youths to seek out military glory (Air and chorus: La Gloire vous appelle). Hebe prays to Cupid (L'Amour) to use his power to hold them back. Cupid descends on a cloud with his followers. He decides to abandon Europe in favour of the Indies, where love is more welcome.

Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. 20th Century,Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 16 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #5726995. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534653).

Recorded for Grand Piano (GP822) by Nicolas Horvath.

IFêtes galantes was actually planned as a hybrid opera-ballet to a libretto by Debussy’s friend Louis Laloy. For this, Laloy arranged selected poetry by Paul Verlaine into three tableaux, replacing an earlier (unstarted) Debussyan project with Charles Morice entitled Crimen amoris. During his last productive summer of 1915, Debussy set a sequence from the start of the first tableau, ‘Les Masques’, involving stanzas 1 and 3 of the opening song for Mezzetin in Verlaine’s comedy Les Uns et les autres. The action is set in a park à la Watteau late one summer afternoon as Mezzetin attempts to entertain a group of nonchalant masqueraders with only the aid of his voice and a mandolin..

This appears to have been prefaced by a slower, elegiac introduction reminiscent of the opening of the comtemporary Cello Sonata and it leads to a danced minuet by the masqued dancers which has clear echoes of the piano piece L’Isle Joyeuse (1904). Following Laloy’s scenario, the mas-queraders then sing extracts from Verlaine’s ‘A la promenade’ (from Fêtes galantes itself). The minuet returns at greater length before being cut short by a chilly gust of wind, after which the park returns to its orginal state (and music) as though nothing had really happened.
