It is in two movements, each with a spirit of ancient airsre-imagined in a modern context. The ancestry of most woodwind instruments as folkinstruments is the inspiration for the work's concept. The piece should always beplayed with a lyrical, singing approach.Beyond the Mountain uses as its basic musical material a simple transformation of amodal melody in D minor. Gradually tones are added borrowed from othermodalities. The opening section is slow and lyrical. The middle section is moreactive -- contrasting the D minor chord tones with the added diminished tones of thefirst section. The final section recalls the material of the opening with a widertransformation.Forgotten Incantation uses a wider modal language than the first movement.Although still generally slow and song-like, it is more energetic. Since the court of Anhalt-Cöthen was Calvinist, Church music was limited to congregational psalms and hymns. Bach’s work during this period consisted of writing chamber music for the Prince, who was an accomplished violinist, gambist and harpsichordist. Other works from this period include the Cello Suites, the viola da gamba sonatas, the Flute sonatas and the partita for solo flute and the Orchestral Suites.  The Sonata presented here is in the four movement “Church Sonataâ€� style. The first five sonatas all share the same principal of Slow-Fast-Slow-Fast with a generally unified three-voice “Trio Sonataâ€� texture. Passages which include double stops have been arranged as grace notes, which should be performed rapidly, but with a sensitivity to creating the necessary resonance which suggest implied chords.

His opera Ne touchez pas à la reine was first performed in 1847, followed by Mosquita la sorcière. Despite growing success, after 1850 he spent less time working on composition as he took over the management of his father’s piano factory Boisselot & Fils in Marseille. Flautist Jean Rémusat came from Bordeaux. In 1832 he won the 1er prix at the Paris Conservatoire, where he studied with Jean-Louis Tulou. He worked as principal flautist at the Queen’s Theatre in London until its closure in 1853. After a few more years working at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris he went to work as a conductor in Shanghai, where he died at the age of 65. Rémusat – generally referred to without his first name – is often encountered by flautists as the arranger of well-known pieces from that time. Plate no. 12099 / published in 1853.

The original composition was written in D Major but Regis Bookshar has transposed it to Bb Major, making it a little easier for many modern musicians. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (8 pages). The 17th century composer, Henry Purcell, is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers of his generation. His Sonata for Trumpet and Strings in D Major, composed in 1694, was probably written for the London Theatre, where a fine tradition of trumpet playing had developed. Purcell almost certainly had in mind either John Shore or his brother, William, the most renowned trumpet players in England at the time. The trumpets of the time were normally tuned in D and there were no valves on the Baroque trumpets, so they were limited in the number of notes that they could play. The term Sonata here probably means no more than a piece of incidental music and looks forward to the style that would become the solo concerto where soloist and strings are pitted against each other but also looks back to an older type of instrumental music which emphasized equality between members of the ensemble. The music is in three movements and looks forward to the fast-slow-fast plan popularized by Vivaldi's concertos.
