So whether marching into heaven, Valhalla or some other bright light at the end of the tunnel, let this music provide the soundtrack of trumpeting angels and one last ticker tape parade as these warriors are welcomed into their eternal home.This is a piece of intermediate difficulty with a nice melody and a John Williams' Olympic Fanfare feel to it. While the trumpets soar in their high registers for the heralding sections, the range for the rest of the piece (and the rest of the band) stays mostly in the center of the instruments. Written in 1910 and dedicated to the music students of Morley College, Gustav Holst wrote Christmas Day for choir and a sizable orchestra to perform a series of old Christmas carols. Themes and variants of In Dulci Jubilio (Good Christian Men Rejoice), God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, The First Nowell, and Come Ye Lofty, Come Ye Lonely are interwoven throughout the piece with Holst's clever craftsmanship, and although the composer and his heirs thought little of the work, it has enjoyed popularity as a seasonal choir piece. This setting revises the original orchestral/choir version note for note for the modern concert band with no concessions made except for some slight key shifts in consideration for band. This composer also likes featuring neglected sections, when possible, so the opening alto solo is arranged for a lone tuba to take before the piece opens up for everyone else.
