Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, commonly known as Sonata Pathétique, was written in 1798 when the composer was 27 years old, and was published in 1799. It has remained one of his most celebrated compositions. The famous cantabile melody is played three times, separated by two modulating episodes. Several rock artists have also sampled the adagio, like Kiss and Billie Joel. The 2nd Movement were featured and played by Schroeder in the 1969 animated films A Boy Named Charlie Brown and It's the Pied Piper, Charlie Brown. This arrangement for trombone or euphonium with piano accompaniment is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

The composer, violinist and educationalist Louis Spohr (1784–1859) caused a sensation as a child already: At the age of 5, he took his first violin lessons and at the age of 15 was employed as chamber musician of the Duke's orchestra. Very soon, his fame as a virtuoso violinist ran ahead of him, and he undertook concert tours throughout Europe. On these trips, he was often accompanied by his first wife, a virtuoso harpist and pianist. For their joint music-making, Spohr wrote a Sonata for violin and harp the adagio of which was rearranged for bassoon and piano. It was followed by arrangements for other melodic instruments, although not by Spohr himself. This is a melodious setting – now cantabile, now passionate – which is worth playing and listening to.

The Wind Trio for two Oboes and English Horn in C major, Op. 87 is a trio composition by Ludwig van Beethoven written in 1794, shortly after he arrived Vienna. Because amateur performers would gather in unusual permutations of players, this Trio was quickly arranged for many other combinations of instruments: versions exist for two violins and bass line, two flutes and viola, two clarinets and bassoon, as a sonata for violin and piano, and in various piano settings. . In 1806, Beethoven approved an arrangement (not by him) for two violins and viola, which was published that year. It was assigned the misleadingly-high opus number of 87, which would seem to place it near the Seventh Symphony; in fact, this music was written before Beethoven had published his Opus 1. . This is the 2nd mvt (Adagio) arranged standard WIND QUARTET: - flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon.
