Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.992361 Composed by Tim Fatchen. Celtic,Contemporary,Folk. Score. 15 pages. Flying Tadpole Productions #6210807. Published by Flying Tadpole Productions (A0.992361). ALT.CALLAHANS REEL(which is actually a Slide, with a Reel interlude!)  Fast  and lively foot-tapping neo-Celtic, at its best on electronic keyboard but also  a fun piano solo.  (Duration 8+ minutes)  Reel Jiggery-pokery The  song started as a jig but drank too much and reeled into 12/8 time. Properly  speaking, despite its strong 4-beat pulse, it's a Slide. Or perhaps a Double Jig. Except for the mid-section, which is really a Reel!  Needless to say, this is not for the  purists...but it's huge fun for the rest of us!  Playing and Performing We've marked it Advanced Intermediate. It's the indicated speed which makes demands!  But you can play it slower and enjoy! On  electronic or MIDI keyboard, use a percussive/plucked foundation (e.g. piano,  harp, faux guitar) with a sustained string patch (string ensemble, synth strings, viola works well, fiddle works well, most violin patches are  terrible!). For piano, you'll have to use more of the sustain pedal but not too much or it'll go all muddy on you, just like a mis-step in an Irish bog! (Original  live and YouTube performances were on a Medeli MC 710, from 2005.  This keyboard allowed splitting and dual voices. Piano was used as foundation both above and below the split point. A  loud viola patch was used as the second voice on the upper part of the  keyboard, as the dominant fiddle sound carrying the melody.  A synth string patch was used  as second voice on the lower half, giving  the drones.)  Add Your Own Salt and Pepper to the Score! The  song is scored for clarity, not as a detailed demand for every possible  nuance.  It's fast, so although simple  to look at when not playing,  you'll  need to be reading the music at speed. Unless, of course, you're blessed with a  brilliant memory!   So  the score isn't cluttered with ornaments and fiddly bits, or lots of expression marks. Especially, it's not cluttered by a lot of suspended notes.  BUT...you will need to suspend a lot of notes as you play. Think drones running all over the place and use your  keyboard sustaining string patches to bring those drones out!  Listen to the live recordings, they'll  help.  You,  as player, have lots of freedom!  It's up to you how many additional frills, or emphasis, or drone  suspensions you throw in.  Why alt.callahans? In the far distant past of 2005, there was  an Internet  newsgroup of that name, in honor and emulation of  Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, a fictional bar with strongly community-minded and empathic clientele, part of the fictional universe of American writer  Spider Robinson. [Wikipedia]  A  place for tall tales and true, comradeship, puns both good and bad.  We had fun there, and this song came out of  it. The Internet world, sadly, has changed since.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1183535 Composed by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St. Georges. Arranged by Robert Debbaut. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Multicultural,World. 34 pages. ROBERT DEBBAUT #783208. Published by ROBERT DEBBAUT (A0.1183535). How is it that one can be born a slave in French colonial Guadeloupe and rise to be among Paris’ musical giants, to become a colonel in the French Army as well as the frequent dinner guest of princes and potentates? The story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, is surely an interesting one, even the stuff of which movies are made.Joseph Bologne’s father, Georges Bologne de Saint-Georges was a French planter. Saint-Georges was the name of his plantation. He impregnated Anne, the Senegalese slave of his wife, who bore him a son in 1745. Uncharacteristic of many of these sort of relationships he acknowledged the child was his and gave him his family name. When he was seven Bologne’s father took him to Paris for his education, enrolling him in a boarding school. Two years later he and the child’s mother returned to France and set up housekeeping as a family in Paris’ Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. At age thirteen Joseph’s father enrolled him in the Royal Technical Academy of Fencing and Swordsmanship. He quickly became the finest swordsman in the academy, perhaps in all of Paris. Upon graduation he was made an Officer of the King’s Bodyguard and a chevalier (an honorary knighthood). He went on to serve tours of duty in the French Army during the Seven Years War (1756-1763) and later after the French Revolution, where he was Colonel and commander of an all-Black regiment of the Revolutionary Army. All this in spite of the fact that French law forbade him, a man of African heritage, to become a citizen, to retain his father’s royal title of “Gentleman of the King’s Chamber,†or to marry outside his class. There is limited information about Bologne’s musical training, but he was obviously so well-skilled that Italian violinist-composer Antonio Lolli (1725-1802) wrote two violin concertos for him and French composer François-Joseph Gossec (1734-1829) dedicated his set of String Trios, Op. 9 to Bologne. Lolli may have worked with him on violin technique and Gossec composition, but this may be apocryphal. Bologne played in Gossec’s orchestra, and was later both leader and conductor of the group. As a composer Joseph Bologne was quite prolific, composing six operas, fourteen violin concertos, four symphonies concertantes, and numerous chamber works and songs. His Six String Quartets, Op. 1, Nos. 1-6 date from 1770-1771 and were published by the Paris publishing house of Jean-Georges Sieber (1738-1822) in 1773 (There are a total of 18 quartets: Six Quartets “au goût du jour†[up-to-date] from 1779 and the Opus 14 set of six which date from 1785). The Opus 1 quartets are dedicated to Anne Louis Alexandre de Montmorency (1724-1812), 7th Prince of Robeck (Robecq) and Grand Duke of Spain. The Opus 1 quartets all display a similarity to the Italian opera overtures from earlier in the Eighteenth Century (often called “sinfoniaâ€) in that they have an overall “A-B-A†form with the ‘A’ sections being robust allegros and all ‘B’ sections marked “rondo.†As such, in arranging them for string orchestra it seemed quite natural to rename them “overtures.†Certain liberties were taken by the arranger in order to maintain the integrity of the classic Rondo formula. All six have been arranged in this manner for string orchestra. They vary in length from twelve to almost twenty minutes. If you wish to obtain parts, write to debbaut@gmail.com and pay $42 via venmo or $40 via personal check and they will be sent to you in pdf format.

Choral 3-Part Mixed Chorus,Choir,Choral - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1491537 Composed by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Arranged by Tabitha Beaven. A Cappella,Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Pop. 13 pages. Tabitha Beaven #1068259. Published by Tabitha Beaven (A0.1491537). Three part arrangement for mixed voice. Designed to be relatively simple for a quick win! Parts labelled Upper, Middle and Lower relate best to SAT, but also accessible to SAA. Note range for each part shown by the clef at the start of the score. Chords provided for simple accompaniment on piano/guitar/ukulele but is also fun with A Cappella with accompanying finger clicks. Originally arranged for a one-off  'come and sing' session for an unknown mix of voices, therefore designed to be simple and accessible for a mix of male and female voices. Lower male (Bass) voices can adapt any part at a lower octave. In Grease the movie this song is featured played by Sha Na Na as the school dance. However this version is based on the Grease The Stage Musical version where it's a song sung by Doody - listen here. I've not found an exact backing track for this version so simple chords have been included on the score (a repeating pattern of C / Am / F / G7 until the last 6 bars when switches to F / Fm / C). If want to use a backing track the film version by Sha Na Na is available on Karaoke Version but would need to adjust the ending slightly moving from end of bar 61 to bar 66 and then do bar 67, bar 69 and bar 71 and 72 to end. An optional middle section is included which keeps the Lower part riff from bar 38 - 42 and layers a four bar section from 'We Go Together' for interest! Build this up and strip it back down before moving onto Verse 2. Provided: - PDF score with all three parts- Upper, Middle, Lower part separated out to separate sheetsEnjoy! Please tag @tunefultabitha in any song snippets on social media!YouTube link - learnt in under an hour at a 'Come & Sing' session for a group of strangers!

The first, Der er et yndigt land (There is a lovely land) is the civil national anthem and the most frequently performed. When it was first published in 1819, the anthem had twelve verses but today it has been significantly shortened. The dotted rhythm in measure 15 (in Parts 1 and 2) is sometimes played as two equal eighth notes (quavers). The second anthem, Kong Christian stod ved højen mast (King Christian stood by the lofty mast) has equal status but is mainly used for royal and military occasions. At such times, it is either performed alone or the two anthems are played together. Known simply as Kong Christian it is traditionally sung in Denmark immediately after midnight every New Year's Eve. The audio sample contains the first, more popular anthem. These quick and easy national anthem arrangements are essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. You can play it with any virtually any combination of instruments: symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! This arrangement is in six independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you’ll need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick 'n' mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. Note that this anthem is virtually identical to the anthem of Finland. There is a minor difference in part of the melody and the repeat structure is different. This arrangement consists of a four-page score with seven instrumental staves and three percussion staves. The following parts are printed on separate pages. The score and all the parts are contained in the same pdf file. Part 1 in B flat (clarinet, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, soprano sax); Part 1 in C (glockenspiel, violin); Part 1 in E flat (alto sax, E flat clarinet); Part 1a in C (octave above concert for flute, piccolo, oboe, violin) and Part 1a in E flat (E flat cornet in brass band). Note the parts in Kong Kristian go a bit too low for flute and oboe, so Parts 1a or 2a should be used instead. Part 2 in B flat (clarinet, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, soprano sax); Part 2 in C (flute, oboe, violin); Part 2 in E flat (alto sax); Part 2a in C (octave above concert pitch for flute, oboe, violin); Part 2a in B flat for clarinets; Part 2a in E flat (minor 3rd below concert for E flat alto clarinet). Part 3 in B flat (tenor saxophone, B flat baritone); Part 3 in C (bass clef for trombone, bassoon); Part 3 in C alto (alto clef for viola); Part 3 in E flat        (tenor horn, alto sax); Part 3 in F (French horn);  Part 3a in B flat (8ve below concert for 3rd clarinets in band). Part 4 in B flat (tenor sax, baritone); Part 4 in C (bass clef for trombone, euphonium, bassoon, cello); Part 4 in E flat (tenor horn, alto sax); Part 4 in F (French horn). Part 5 in B flat (baritone); Part 5 in C (bass clef for trombone, euphonium, bassoon. Part 6 in B flat (B flat bass, bass clarinet); Part 6 in C (bass clef for bass trombone, bassoon, contrabassoon, tuba, double bass); Part 6 in E flat  (E flat bass, baritone sax). There’s also a part for timpani, percussion (3 players) and a piano reduction.

String Ensemble,String Trio - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.800205 Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. Arranged by Samantha J Bramley - stringspirational@gmail.com. Children,Christian,Christmas. Score and parts. 7 pages. Samantha Bramley #3881145. Published by Samantha Bramley (A0.800205). The Holiday Season can be really painful for lower string players in any ensemble. Playing ‘cello in a Carol concert makes me want to cry. That is why I have created arrangements of classic Christmas Carols and Songs guaranteed not to bore the pants off your violist or ‘cellist. No more bashing out bass notes for the ‘cello, and no more chugging away on the off-beat for viola while the fiddles get soaring melody after soaring counter-melody. We deserve more than this, right guys? You got it! Silent Night On the bi-centenary of its composition, my arrangement of 'Silent Night’ for string trio gives all the instruments chance to shine with melody, counter melody and harmony by turns. With few technical challenges, this musical interpretation of one of the most iconic Christmas songs is a great play for ensembles of early intermediate standard. Scored for string trio (vln/vla/vc). With optional 2nd violin for viola part. Note from the arranger: All my arrangements for strings are conceived specifically with the aim of writing interesting parts for all players. Most parts do not go beyond 4th position (with the exception of a few harmonics), making them suitable for student and mixed ability groups. A complete score and set of individual parts (violin 1, violin 2, viola, ‘cello) is included. String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.800204 By Dave Koz & Kelly Sweet. By Irving Berlin. Arranged by Samantha J Bramley - stringspirational@gmail.com. Jazz. Score and parts. 10 pages. Samantha Bramley #3878681. Published by Samantha Bramley (A0.800204). You got it! This arrangement of 'White Christmas’ for string quartet stays true to the spirit of the original Bing Crosby version with respect both melody and harmony. Beginning with those unmistakeable 4 chords in the upper strings, the ‘cello takes the majority of the vocal line, but all three other parts are also given a chance to shine with melody, counter melody and harmony by turns. With high positions in both violin parts and up to 4th position plus harmonics for the lower strings, the challenge in this arrangement is found in the technical and musical interpretation of this iconic song, and is a great play for ensembles of advanced intermediate standard. Note from the arranger: All my arrangements for strings are conceived specifically with the aim of writing interesting parts for all players. Most parts do not go beyond 4th position (with the exception of a few harmonics in the lower string parts, and some higher positions in the violin parts), making them suitable for advanced student and mixed ability groups. A complete score and set of individual parts (violin 1, violin 2, viola, ‘cello) is included. Enjoy and feel free to email comments or requests for other works to stringspirational@gmail.com
