Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1263056 By Dr. Sheri Masiakowski. By Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF. Arranged by Dr. Sheri L. Masiakowski. 20th Century,Classical,Sacred. Full Performance. Duration 705. School Sisters of St. Francis #856051. Published by School Sisters of St. Francis (A0.1263056). First published in 1958, this organ suite has four movements based on Gregorian Chants. The first three movements are derived from the introit, offertory and communion of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception— December 8th. The final movement is based on the Kyrie and the Dismissal from the Mass for Feasts of the Blessed Virgin (Beata Virgine) Missa Cum Jubilo. All are found in the Liber Usualis. An image of each chant precedes its corresponding movement in this score. The compositional style is tonal. It is representative of Sr. Theophane's earlier work though the Communion may have been written later than the other movements. Performance by Dr. Sheri Masiakowski at Marquette University's Church of the Gesu in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  The organ is Schantz IV/115R.

Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.898551 Composed by Matthew Alan Edwards. Arranged by Matthew Alan Edwards. Baroque,Christmas,Concert,Renaissance,Sacred. Score. 6 pages. Matthew Alan Edwards #4266213. Published by Matthew Alan Edwards (A0.898551). Now offering 25% off my SMP price at MatthewAlanEdwards.com/op-7 !Canzona alla terza Verbum supernum prodiens was composed late one night after I was inspired by the chant melody as found in the Hymnal 1982, hymn 63. Rather than compose on the computer as I usually do, I wrote by hand as I determined the best four-part canonic treatment for each of the phrases of the chant. Composing this was akin to assembling a puzzle, both in mindset (this note fits best here) and addictive quality (need to finish this now!). Originally conceived as a short organ piece, I quickly chose to add the English text from the Hymnal 1982 then text directly from the Liber Usualis, a Catholic book of Gregorian chants commonly used until the reforms of the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II). This piece is similar in style to an Italian Renaissance canzona or early German Baroque kanon. It should be performed with performance practice of those eras in mind, including lifts after dotted notes, metric accents, and minimal vibrato, especially at cadences. It may be performed in alternatum with one of the choral versions (SATB English, SATB Latin, SSA/TTB Latin, or SSA/TTB English) or with a soloist(s) on the chant or as an organ solo. I have provided the first line of chant below and all six verses in Latin with translations on the next page. The SSA Latin version was adapted from the original SATB version for the women of the Hillcrest High School choral program under the direction of Dr. Khristi Motley in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It reduces the original four-voice setting to three voices without sacrificing any canonic entrances. Either the two-staff or single-staff version may be performed by solo organ. In the single-staff version, stem direction decisions were made primarily for readability, not to show voice leading. Refer to the four-part, two-staff version for voice leading questions. Also available as SSA/TTB in Latin or English. SATB Latin/English versions coming soon!

Lines that end in a melisma should be performed by singing the final vowel and placing the consonant at the release of the final melisma note. The first verse may be sung in unison or as a solo as printed below. The verses may be sung in alternatum (odd verses, printed below: solo chant, even verses: choir). For a complete translation of the six Latin verses, refer to the next page. In the music’s text, I have retained all accent marks as found in the Liber Usualis. These should help inform text stress. The last two verses are suitable as a Communion anthem. This SSA Latin version was adapted from the original SATB version for the women of the Hillcrest High School choral program under the direction of Dr. Khristina Motley in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It reduces the original four-voice setting to three voices without sacrificing any canonic entrances. This SSA version is also suitable for performance by an advanced middle school choral ensemble or for TTB men. Also available as an organ solo or in English. SATB Latin/English versions coming soon!

Piano,Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1098129 Composed by Traditional plainchant melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Medieval,Religious,Sacred. Score and part. 7 pages. Con Spirito Music #702001. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1098129). “Humbly I Adore Thee†is a eucharistic, or communion, hymn with text by St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274).The origin of the melody, “Adoro te Devote,†is unclear. In some places it is simply described as a Gregorian chant; in others as a 13th-century Benedictine plainsong; in others as a French church melody published in the Paris Processionale (hymnal or liturgical manual) of 1697. Regardless, it is a lovely, flowing tune well-suited for the legato “singing†capabilities of the trombone, euphonium, or cello. In this arrangement, the soloist plays the tune through on the first verse in D major, adds a descant over the melody played by keyboard in the second verse and, following a short modulation, recapitulates the tune in the concluding key of G major.©Copyright 2022 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1333731 Composed by David W. Barber. A Cappella,Christian,Early Music,Jazz,Medieval. 25 pages. David W. Barber #920028. Published by David W. Barber (A0.1333731). I wrote this piece in 2018 to mark the 50th anniversaryof the Toronto Chamber Choir, a fine early music choir I have sung with since 1998.Using the  opening of the well-known Gregorian chant Gaudeamus omnes (and changingthe text to let us rejoice in music, Gaudeamus is a five- minute musical history tourthrough the various time periods the TCC sings. It begins with plainchant, then two-voiceorganum of the 11th-century Notre Dame school of Leonin and Perotin, followed bythree-voice hocket of a slightly later period. Then a nod to the 15th-century Dufay motetNuper rosarum flores (which the TCC has performed.) Next comes some 16th-centuryTudor music -- Byrd, say -- including some false relations and a typical English cadence. Then comes an allusion to Purcell, specifically the pleasing dissonance of the “voice of theTurtle†from My Beloved Spake. Then comes a little Bach-like fugue (or fughetta) based onthe Gaudeamus motif. Since the TCC rarely performs Classic/Romantic repertoire, wejump immediately to a jazzy ending in compound meter -- imagine Byrd meets Brubeck, based on one of my own earlier pieces for solo piano, but with elements of the Gaudeamusmelody. And all that in five minutes. Phew!
