Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927185 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by George Willson. 20th Century,Christmas,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 77 pages. George Willson #6645143. Published by George Willson (A0.927185). Written in 1910 and dedicated to the music students of Morley College, Gustav Holst wrote Christmas Day for choir and a sizable orchestra to perform a series of old Christmas carols. Themes and variants of In Dulci Jubilio (Good Christian Men Rejoice), God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, The First Nowell, and Come Ye Lofty, Come Ye Lonely are interwoven throughout the piece with Holst's clever craftsmanship, and although the composer and his heirs thought little of the work, it has enjoyed popularity as a seasonal choir piece. This setting revises the original orchestral/choir version note for note for the modern concert band with no concessions made except for some slight key shifts in consideration for band. This composer also likes featuring neglected sections, when possible, so the opening alto solo is arranged for a lone tuba to take before the piece opens up for everyone else.
