Composed by Alessandro Macrì. Baroque,Classical,Concert,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 10 pages. Music Macri Editions #6082045. Published by Music Macri Editions (A0.931276).

I primi successi

The composer Fanny Hünerwadel (1826 in Lenzburg - 1854 in Rome) came from a long-established family of the town of Lenzburg. She was the eldest child of the doctor Johann Friedrich Hünerwadel and Regula Speerli, who were both enthusiastic music lovers. After first being taught by her mother, Hünerwadel learned to play the piano in Lenzburg with Philipp Tietz, Joseph Breitenbach, and Ludwig Kurz and belonged to the local singing society. From 1846 she studied piano, singing, music theory and composition with Hans Nägeli and with Wagner's friend Alexander Müller in Zurich. During her time in Zurich she made the acquaintance of Johann W. Kalliwoda, Richard Wagner, Ferdinand Huber, Franz Liszt, Franz Abt, Wilhelm Baumgartner and Henri Vieuxtemps. In 1852, she played Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Rondo brillant in a subscription concert of the Zurich General Music Society, which became the current Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. For further studies, she traveled to Florence and Rome in 1853. In Florence she took singing lessons with Romani. In Rome in 1853 she was the guest of the artistic families Corrodi and Imhof and took lessons with the singing teacher Parisotti. Hünerwadel died of typhoid fever in Rome on April 27, 1854, and was buried there on April 30. Six of Hünerwadels seven preserved piano songs were published posthumously (in 1854). Her great-nephew was the composer, painter, and publicist Peter Mieg (1906-1990) Source: Wikipedia.

Das Liederspiel. Composed by Engelbert Humperdinck. This edition: single sheet. Singspiel version - fairy tale - Brothers Grimm - folk song - piano reduction - Hansel - Gretel - witch. Downloadable, Separate edition. Duration 55 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q47807. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q47807).

German.

When Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy tale opera Hänsel und Gretel was premiered on 23 December 1893 in Weimar conducted by Richard Strauss, the work could look back on an extensive history of origin.Humperdinck’s younger sister Adelheid Wette (born in 1858) had displayed a great interest in literature in her youth and written a variety of poems for special occasions. In 1888, she wrote a fairy tale entitled Schneewittchen [Snow White] and her brother supplied some songs for this piece. Further fairy tale collaborations followed which were customarily performed within the family circle, and the first draft of the Hänsel und Gretel was begun in 1890. Adelheid’s husband would be celebrating his 34th birthday on 16 May of this year and his wife intended to surprise him with a performance of her version of this fairy tale. Her brother was allotted the task of composing the accompanying songs and, a month before the birthday, she wrote a letter to him in Mainz where Engelbert Humperdinck was among other activities working as an editor for the Schott publishing house, ordering a “very pretty folkloric†Tanzlied [Dance song], a Waldlied [Forest song] (or Echolied [Echo song]), a Schlummerlied [Lullaby] and a Kickericki-Lied [Cock-a-doodle-doo song] from her “dear sugar-sweet little brother... Engel-Bärtchen [angel beard]â€. She enclosed the corresponding verses with the letter and “for fun†also provided her own invented melody for the Schlummerlied and rhythmic suggestions for the Tanzlied. Humperdinck went straight to work and, as related in an entry in his diary, was already able to play the songs to the director of the publishing house, Dr Ludwig Strecker, by 19 April. This was the history of origin of the four songs published for the first time edited in form of their original versions in this edition Brüderchen komm’ tanz’ mit mir, Wer ruft mir im Walde doch alles nach, In den Zweigen die Vögelein und Tirelireli! ‘s ist nicht mehr früh “for two children’s voices and piano accompaniment†(see manuscript1). In his reply letter to his sister in which the fair copy of the songs were enclosed, Humperdinck wrote: “As you see, the pitch of the melodies is not too high and I have incorporated your melodies. Let me know soon whether you like the little songs. By the way, the ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ can also be sung on one note(E flat) instead of on the four notes of the chord.â€The first performance of the song-play was held as planned within the family circle with Wettes’ two eldest daughters in the two principle roles. Spurred on by the success of the family performance, initial plans were forged to adapt the song-play into a singspiel with numerous musical numbers and rhymed dialogues; Hermann Wette participated in a draft of the text. The particell of this singspiel had been completed by Christmas 1890. Hugo Wolf and a few others however advised the composer to extend the singspiel into a through-composed fairy tale opera. Humperdinck followed this advice and worked on what he ironically termed as a “Kinderstubenweihfestspiel“ [sacred festive play for the nursery] during the next two summers in Bayreuth. Tanzliedchen [Dance song] and Morgenweckruf [Cock-a-doodle-doo song] were eventually included in the opera in a modified form.

Program Notes

About the Composer

The 'Atalanta, HWV 35: Ouverture' was composed by the renowned Baroque composer, Georg Friedrich Händel. His imaginative works make him one of the most important figures of the Baroque period. Other well-known works of Händel's include 'The Messiah', 'Water Music', and 'Music for the Royal Fireworks'. He was a master at combining various instruments and emotional elements to create enthralling music.

Musical Characteristics

The 'Atalanta, HWV 35: Ouverture' is characterized as a light and airy composition, made up of a combination of a trumpet solo and chamber orchestra. The movement transitions from a gentle, unhurried 'Largo' into an energetic and lively 'Allegro'. The bright, steady tempo of the 'Allegro' creates a lively and captivating atmosphere. The trumpet solo and chamber orchestra complement each other wonderfully, resulting in an energetic and joyous musical journey.

The Composition Itself

The 'Atalanta, HWV 35: Ouverture' is presented here by trumpeter Alison Balson and conductor Trevor Pinnock and The English Concert. The piece begins with a wonderfully flavorful 'Largo' section, featuring Balson's ethereal, small touches of the trumpet as the orchestra gently sets the musical groundwork. This is soon followed by an equally uplifting 'Allegro'. Balson's trumpet solo is full of passion and energy, creating a bold and energetic atmosphere. As the chamber orchestra grows more intense, the piece builds to a thrilling conclusion.

Programmatic Interpretation

The 'Atalanta, HWV 35: Ouverture' is based on the ancient Greek myth of Atalanta. In the myth, Atalanta is a swift and brave Princess who is challenged by a band of young suitors to a race. To the winners, she offers a prize of marriage. As we listen to Handel's composition, we can imagine the race beginning with the slow and steady 'Largo', as Atalanta calmly assesses the present, and takes her time to decide her path. As the 'Allegro' begins, we can feel her strength and power as she embarks on her journey, full of excitement and determination. As the piece builds, we can feel her courage and enthusiasm as she confronts the race ahead. Finally, we can picture Atalanta achieving success as the piece ends in jubilation.

Händel's Opera pieces - Director teacher score
This score include the full score with the five parts grouped in 3 voices
First of all, I apologize for my english language mistakes !!
The repertoire included in Händel's Opera pieces is the culmination of a process of searching for musical material in Händel's opera repertoire, which can be used at the same time, outside of

its original compositional context, exclusively exalting its beauty as well as the genius of the its composer Georg Friedrich Handel.
The conditions that all the pieces of the volume had to fulfill were the following:
- To have a short duration to be used as teaching material in subjects of baroque technique and chamber music, collective subjects or even chamber orchestra subjects.
- They can be interpreted in trio chamber formations in the following combinations:
Voice 1    Violin, flute, oboe or clarinet.
Voice 2    Violin, viola, flute, oboe or clarinet.
Voice3    Violin, viola, cello, bassoon, flute, oboe or clarinet.

They are of limited technical complexity in order to allow the performers to participate and at the same time enjoy listening the polyphony and counterpoint of Handel's compositional style.
This collection of 27 pieces have been mostly selected from Handel's vast opera production (44 operas or so depending on the criteria to be considered as operas or oratories) and the most

beautiful (but not famous), adapted to three-voice trio formations.

The pieces included are the following

3.    Final Gavotte of act I (Arianna in Creta)
4.    Overture Mussette (Alcina)
