The melody is mostly in the tuba part to give the player a rare chance to shine. The original wood block part (suggesting the clattering of clogs in the dance) can either be played by an extra person (possibly recruited from the audience) or, if preferred, substituted by the suggested brass writing. As well as acting as a solo moment for the tuba player the piece can be treated as a novelty moment in the programme if performed with some humour. An ideal item as an encore or in demonstration situations.
