This rock chart by Mars Bonfire, a native of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada was first performed by the band “Steppenwolf� in 1968. It was later featured in the 1969 film “Easy Rider� featuring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern, as motorcyclists travelling through the southern United States. “Mars Bonfire� was the stage name for Dennis McCrohan, who, along with his brother and drummer for Steppenwolf, Jerry, changed their last names to Edmonton. The original version was a ballad. Bonfire offered the song to other bands, but it wasn’t until Steppenwolf that it morphed into the current sped-up and rock-style chart we have today. This version became Steppenwolf’s most successful single, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. In 2018, the song was inducted into the singles category of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This spirited setting can easily be performed by a 2nd section band or lower. The Principal Cornet will enjoy having a challenging solo in the break (or they can improvise their own). Published by Alexander Koller (A0.1035850). This is a four-part a cappella arrangement in the barbershop style (for male voices). The arrangement follows the Adele version more closely than the Bob Dylan version, but leaves out some of her stylizations. It should be fine for barbershop contests.There are already several barbershop arrangements of the song. My goal was to write one that is accessible for beginning barbershoppers, but still has some fun moments and a musical development that supports the story. I have tried to maintain the quiet and introspective mood of the original, while still giving you the opportunity for some musical contrasts.The back half (which you can't see in the preview) has the third verse as a lead solo and the fourth verse as a lead-tenor duet, with the other parts singing doo-doo accompaniment. The second bridge (the storms are raging) has a higher tessitura and musical intensity than the first one.The arrangement is for male voices. It should also work for a mixed quartet with a male bass. Published by HopSez Productions (A0.1248646). This beloved LDS hymn is now available for two (or three) cellos, with or without a simple two-part- invention-style piano accompaniment. The melody is played by the first cello, while the second cello plays a pizzicato bass line. A third cellist may play the bass clef line of the piano part, if you opt to realize this piece without a piano. The hymn is fully complete when played by two - or three - cellos; the piano is optional. Note: this hymn has been raised a half step, from the hymnal's Ab to A, for ease of string playing. If the pianist knows how to replace flats with sharps, they could easily accompany directly from the hymnal, and the congregation could sing along as the cellos play.

HopSez Productions #797843. Published by HopSez Productions (A0.1198761). Add some easy blues chromaticism to your repetoire with this classic Gershwin tune. In a switch from the usual, the melody is carried by the viola and sometimes the cello (bass clef).  This arrangement is raised a half step from the original. Now in D minor (with a brief foray into G major), the range is not technically difficult; however, the piece is peppered with enough accidentals to keep you on your toes.Suggestion: I think the arrangement would sound nice if coupled with a Joplin rag. I'd be interested in hearing how you choose to incorporate it into your program.The work was influenced by a masterful performance from pianist Eduardo Rojas.
