The variations are a bit satirical of the classical period theme-and-variations tradition. The music ends with a fugue and a short tip of the hat to Beethoven whose Diabelli Variations were on the composer's mind when he wrote his own set of variations. Duration: about 17 minutes. The MP3 Audio Clip is a studio recording of the composer at the piano.

The film composer, Dario Marianelli, used several period pieces of music for scenes in the movie. This is a lively festive dance that was originally composed by Henry Purcell who lived in the 17th century. It soundsvery folk-like and it's possible he heard it being played by a band and decided to formally write it down.I took the original music and added a section to it that I composed which sounds stylistically right to give it a bit more length. This musicis great for wedding recessional or just if you want a lively background music piece for your reception or gig it is fun to play. I also did a string quartetarrangement and you will find that on SMP as well.
