Scriven originally wrote this poem anonymously, and it was not until 1880 that his name became known. The hymn's melody was composed by Charles Crozat Converse in 1868. I quoted this beautiful melody and arranged it into a small violin concerto format.

Through the theme, it creates a musical updraft up to the second variation, and in the third variation, a relaxed atmosphere, and then a cadenza singing a conversation between a mother who sings a lullaby and a baby who is enjoying her dream comes out. The figure of the mother is the theme melody played with the G string, and the figure of the child is the cheerful high notes composed of the first five notes of the theme, “Mi Re Do Re Mi.� It then ends with a brilliant finale and a short conclusion.
