Hans-Martin Linde hat nicht nur das Spiel von Blockflöte bzw. Traverso auf neue Weise geprägt und zahlreiche Werke für „sein“ Instrument geschaffen, sondern sich auch als Komponist u.a. von Chormusik einen Namen gemacht. Seine Sechs Eichendorff-Gesänge, darunter Vertonungen von bekannten Versdichtungen wie „Der Abend“, „Der Einsiedler“ und „Wünschelrute“ für vier- bis achtstimmigen gemischten Chor (SSAATTBB) a cappella, hat er Prof. Raphael Immoos und dem Kammerchor der Hochschule für Musik Basel gewidmet. In der Tat bedarf es bei der Ausführung dieser sechs weltlichen Kompositionen echter Chormusikspezialisten. Doch der Probenaufwand lohnt sich: Denn Linde versteht es auf meisterhafte Weise, die Stimmung dieser romantischen Kleinode einzufangen und ebenso sensibel wie klangintensiv ins neuzeitliche Poetisch-Musikalische zu transportieren.

This partita for String Quartet is based on the tune HERZLICH TUT MICH VERLANGEN by Renaissance composer Hans Leo Hassler (1564-1612), which is often sung to the Lenten hymn O Sacred Head, Now Wounded. Chorale settings frame this six-movement work while the inner movements employ doleful ostinatos, a quasi-canon, and a bicinium that turns into a trio at the cadences. With anguished and unconventional harmonies, the work begins fortissimo on a second inversion of an F major seventh chord and ends pianissimo eight minutes later on an A major chord. Originally composed for organ, this partita works well for strings and in the context of worship is particularly suited for Lent, Holy Week, or communion services. A downloadable performance audio mp3 file is available as is a compatible edition for Woodwind Quintet.
