Die Weihnachtsmotette des Leipziger Komponisten und langjährigen Kirchenmusikers an der Kirche St. Nikolai, Wolfgang Hofmann (geb. 1928), wurde bereits vom berühmten Leipziger Thomanerchor unter der Leitung von Georg Christoph Biller für die CD Weihnachtsliederabend des Thomanerchores Leipzig eingesungen. Die 3-5stimmige Motette ist eine moderne Auseinandersetzung mit der neutestamentlichen Gleichsetzung der Verheißung des Reisleins aus dem Stamm Isai mit dem in der Krippe zu Bethlehem geborenen Kind. Der weihnachtliche Choral Es ist ein Ros entsprungen, den Hofmann in dieser Motette verarbeitet, lässt den Hoffnungsschimmer durchklingen, der mit der Geburt Jesu in die Welt kam. Eine singbare Motette für gute Kirchenchöre, Dauer ca 7 Minuten.

(Black Orpheus) Manhã de Carnaval Arranged for Xylophone and Guitar by Dan Jones www.danjonesguitarist.com Manhã de Carnaval appeared as a principal theme in the 1959 Portuguese-language film Orfeu Negro. It became one of the first Bossa Nova compositions to gain popularity outside Brazil, and in the United States, the song is considered to be one of the most important Brazilian Jazz/Bossa songs that helped establish the Bossa Nova movement in the late 1950s. Manhã de Carnaval has become a jazz standard in the U.S. and is performed regularly by musicians around the world in its vocalized version or as an instrumental. The song is also known as A Day in the Life of a Fool, Carnival, Theme from Black Orpheus, or simply Black Orpheus. In France, the song is also known as La Chanson d'Orphée. Ebben? Ne andrò lontana (Well then, I’ll go far away) is the aria sung by Wally when she decides to leave her home forever in the opera La Wally (1892).  Composer Alfredo Catalani originally created the aria as Chanson Groënlandaise in 1878 and later incorporated it into his opera.  The aria was also featured in the French thriller Diva (1981).  It has been arranged for 4-part SATB ensemble to be performed a cappella.  This arrangement of an operatic masterpiece was created to make ‘Opera’ accessible to wider audiences for various reasons (instructive, educational purposes; and performance familiarity to/for a larger population).  The original melody and harmonies are used.  It retains the original foreign language text.  This arrangement is an excellent tool for introducing ‘Opera’ music in the classroom, and programming diversity in the concert hall.  Performance time: 2:21+-

Like my oratorio Novae de infinito laudes, this work, too, has been influenced by the human world and the scenery of Rome, indeed, perhaps even by the greater hardness of the roman language compared to that of Naples. The first four notes of the subsidiary theme of the second movement which appears for the first time in bar 36 are borrowed from the song My own, my own from the second act of my opera Elegy for Young Lovers; they appear again and again in various forms, even in the second and third movements. - Hans Werner Henze.
