Clarinet Duet Bass Clarinet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1074017 Composed by Josquin des Prez. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Contest,Festival,Instructional,Renaissance,Traditional,Wedding. 2 scores. 50 pages. Jmsgu3 #678286. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1074017). Josquin des Prez (c.1450-1521) was a composer of the Renaissance period, widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time. His compositions set the standard for polyphonic music and are considered a high point in the history of music. He wrote a wide range of works, including masses, motets, and chansons, and was the first composer to set popular secular tunes as mass movements. His influence can be seen in the works of many later composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and George Frideric Handel.Josquin des Prez was a prolific composer of chamber music and duets during the Renaissance period. He wrote several types of chamber music and duets, including madrigals, chansons, and motets. His compositions are characterized by their intricate counterpoint, as well as their harmonic richness and emotional expressiveness. His works often featured two voices in harmony, and he was known to use imitation and complex canonic techniques to create interesting musical textures. Josquin's chamber music and duets are renowned for their complexity and beauty, and they remain some of the most influential and admired works from the Renaissance period.Josquin Desprez is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the Renaissance period. His innovative use of counterpoint and canon helped to revolutionize the musical landscape of the time. Counterpoint is a technique of combining two or more independent melodies in a way that creates harmony and a cohesive musical texture. Josquin was a master of this technique, often combining multiple voices in complex contrapuntal textures. His use of canon, or round, was also highly influential. Canon involves two or more voices repeating the same melody in different registers and often with different rhythms. Josquin wrote canons in various styles and forms, including the popular “circular canon†and the more complex “strict canon.†He was also an early adopter of the “inverted canon†form, in which the same melody is repeated but in an inverted form. Josquin’s use of counterpoint and canon had a lasting impact on the development of Western music and helped to establish the foundation for many of the musical forms and techniques still used today.Contents: I. Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.764693 Composed by Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924). Arranged by James Pybus. Contest,Festival,Opera,Romantic Period,Wedding. 11 pages. James Pybus #4359253. Published by James Pybus (A0.764693). Un bel dì (One Fine Day) is sung in Act 2 of Puccini's famous 1898 opera Madama Butterfly. In this, the opera's most famous aria (and one of the most popular works in the soprano repertoire, which many critics agree Maria Callas owned), Butterfly says that one beautiful day, they will see a puff of smoke on the far horizon. Then a ship will appear and enter the harbour. She will not go down to meet him but will wait on the hill for him to come. After a long time, she will see in the far distance a man beginning the walk out of the city and up the hill. When he arrives, he will call Butterfly from a distance, but she will not answer, partly for fun and partly not to die from the excitement of the first meeting. Then he will speak the names he used to call her: Little one. Dear wife. Orange blossom. Butterfly promises Suzuki that this will happen. Suzuki departs, as Sharpless and Goro arrive in the garden. This arrangement is playable by either SATB or AATB Saxophone Quartet. The duration is ca. 4:05. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1273254 By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Pop. 10 pages. RayThompsonMusic #865399. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1273254). Arranged wind quintet: fl, ob, clt, hn and bsnIn My Life is a song by the English rock band the Beatles. It appeared on their 1965 album Rubber Soul. Its lyrics were written primarily by John Lennon, credited to Lennon–McCartney. George Martin contributed the  solo bridge passage. The song was recorded on 18 October 1965, and was complete except for the instrumental bridge. At that time, Lennon had not decided what instrument to use, but he subsequently asked George Martin to play a piano solo, suggesting something Baroque-sounding. Martin wrote a Bach-influenced piece that he found he could not play at the song's tempo. On 22 October, the solo was recorded with the tape running at half speed, so when played back at normal pace the piano was twice as fast and an octave higher, solving the performance challenge and also giving the solo a unique timbre, reminiscent of a harpsichord.According to Lennon, In My Life was his first real major piece of work because it was the first time he wrote about his own life.In 2000, Mojo named In My Life the best song of all time. Rolling Stone ranked it number 23 on its 2004 list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and number 98 on the 2021 revised list, as well as fifth on its list of the Beatles' 100 Greatest Songs.i have given 1st verse to oboe, and the 2nd verse to the clarinet. The mp3 excerpt is the end of the clarinet verse going into the bridge.

Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1202170 Composed by William Billings (1746-1800). Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Easter,Sacred. Score and parts. 13 pages. Con Spirito Music #800831. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1202170). Ideal as a prelude or postlude to Easter Sunday and Eastertide services of worship, “Easter Anthem†originated as a choral work by William Billings (1746-1800) with text excerpted from Night Thoughts on Life, Death, and Immortality, an extensive blank-verse poem by the English poet Edward Young (1683-1765) published in nine parts (or “nightsâ€) from 1742 to 1745.Born in Boston, Billings was self-taught in music — a tanner by trade — and he was renowned as a singing master and proponent of the singing-school tradition of American folk culture. Considered the ï¬rst native-born American composer, his works include hymns, anthems, psalms, and fuging tunes.“Easter Anthem†is exemplary of his compositional style, which is noted for rhythmic vitality and straightforward harmonies. Exuberantly glorious, it celebrates the resurrection of Christ and the salvation of the world from its opening acclamation, “The Lord is risen indeed! Hallelujah!†to its closing declaration, Thine all the glory, man’s the endless bliss! The Lord is risen indeed! Hallelujah! Now is Christ risen from the dead,And become the ï¬rst fruit of them that slept.Hallelujah! And did he rise?Hear, O ye nations! Hear it, O ye dead!He rose! He burst the bars of death,And triumph'd o'er the grave. Then I rose! Then ï¬rst humanity triumphantPass'd the crystal ports of light,And seiz'd eternal youth.Man, all immortal, Hail!Heaven, all lavish of strange gifts to man,Thine all the glory! Man's the boundless bliss! This joyful work, which explores various combinations of choral voices, is well-suited to the sonorities of the brass quintet. In this arrangement, tempo indications, dynamic markings and articulations, as well as a newly composed timpani part, have been added by the arranger.©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). These fourteen preludes for organ appear to be written in expression of deep affinity and gratitude to a like-minded friend who shared similar values. Some of Naujalis’ organ preludes have been included in music collections abroad – by Mieczysław Surzyński in Warsaw and Joseph Joubert in Paris. Juozas Naujalis (1869–1934) – Lithuanian composer and organist. In 1892, he was appointed organist and choir leader at the Kaunas Cathedral, a position he held until his death. Naujalis became actively involved in organizing local musical societies and institutions. As an outcome of his groundbreaking work, a number of important private entities, such as the first boys’ choir in Lithuania based at the Archcathedral Basilica in Kaunas, courses and the school for organists (1911), the first legal Lithuanian bookshop and music publishing house in Kaunas (1905–1912), the first music magazine Vargonininkas (The Organist) and calendars for organists published in Lithuanian (1909–1910), and the music school in Kaunas (1919), have been launched. In 1908, he founded the Children Society and St. Gregory Society for Organists, which was later reorganised into St. Cecilia Society for church musicians (1924). Naujalis was also the first Lithuanian composer to achieve recognition abroad. His church music was published in Regensburg, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Leipzig and Paris. In recognition of his merits in the field of church music he was made Commander of the Order of the Crown of Italy in Rome, in 1929.A total of 29 organ pieces by Naujalis were recorded at the Archcathedral Basilica in Kaunas in 2019.

My goal is to create something that sounds beautiful as a standalone piece of music, but most importantly, that it actually makes pianistic sense. Sometimes I even hide exercises in the arrangements that I want a student to work on. All of my arrangements are usually made for a specific student, so the results will always vary. This arrangement was made for a late beginner, Primary III, student working on Level 1-2 of the Alfred's Masterwork Classics series. He is a huge Godzilla fan and was thrilled to be playing this. It was not an easy arrangement for him! But he was resilient and persevered even after I offered to make it easier. It has been a year since he performed it, and he can still play it from memory. The rhythmic melody is difficult to keep up with. Good focus on the pedal and accented notes will help with this. The sudden jump to a higher octave might take some time. Also, the split voices at the end should be encouraged, but can always be ignored.Pedal and fingering suggestions are included.

Voice and piano (2 songs with violoncello; 1 vocal duet) - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8491-09E Composed by MeeAe Cecilia Nam and Theodore Gouvy. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8491-09E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8491-09E). French.A French composer, Théodore Gouvy (1819-1898) was one of the most significant composers of 19th Century in Europe. The movement of rediscovering his instrumental music has been increasingly successful in Europe since the 1990s, especially following the birth of L’Institut Gouvy in France. However, his solo vocal music has been waiting to be unveiled to the public. Volume One includes 52 songs of Gouvy.Gouvy traveled widely throughout Europe. He was also a lover of nature. Generally, he spent his winters in Leipzig, but in the summertime, he always returned to Hombourg-Haut, France, to stroll through the woods, to hunt, and to relax. Gouvy was fluent in several languages and had a great appreciation of the Renaissance French Poetry of Pierre de Ronsard whose poetry he had set to music. The fifty-two songs in this volume are largely by Ronsard and other Renaissance poets of La Pléiade.Although Ronsard is approximately 300 years older than Gouvy, they both seem to have the same interest in classical literature, though, admittedly, for different reasons. Celebrated by the French and English courts, Ronsard (1525-1585) was the leader of La Pléiade: a group of seven poets (Joachim Du Bellay (1522-1560), Rémy Belleau (1528-1577), Étienne Jodelle (1532-1573), Pontus de Tyard (1521-1603), Jean–Antoine Baïf (1532-1589), and Jean Daurat (1508-1588), who dedicated their efforts to writing poetry in French rather than in Latin (or Greek) as most of the Romantic poets did. They wished to enrich the French language, and establish a new literature which would be the equal of the other literature of their period, and the equal to poets of the past. French Romantic poetry featured the closeness of the poet to nature, and his ability to communicate with nature by personifying (anthropomorphizing) all of nature’s elements: flowers, the planets, the moon, the breeze, and even the sand upon the shore. As a significant melodist, Gouvy’s treatment of the vocal solo line and his treatment and development of the piano accompaniment places him in the upper echelons as a composer of songs. His diverse cultural life led a rich and significant musical life, interacting with his contemporaries who admired his work, and whom Gouvy knew well, such as Liszt, Brahms, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Berlioz and Gounod.

Marimba Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.955413 Composed by Neal Fitzpatrick. Arranged by Neal Fitzpatrick. Contemporary,Instructional,World. Individual part. 2 pages. Neal Fitzpatrick Editions #6027565. Published by Neal Fitzpatrick Editions (A0.955413). This is Impromptu No.2 For Marimba From Twenty Impromptus For Marimba by Neal Fitzpatrick. This set of music for Marimba is based my Twenty Etudes For Guitar. Both being polyphonic instruments the guitar and the marimba are certainly distant cousins so I believe the essence of works for one instrument can be expressed on the other, in either direction. While these pieces may in fact work as etudes for marimba I have purposefully renamed them. Whether or not they work as etudes I will leave up to each individual percussionist and teacher the extent of their didactic usefulness. Ultimately though all music can be used for study and my wish is these pieces can be used for study and performance. They are relatively brief and ideally played in sets, the number and selections being determined by the performer. Guitarist Neal Fitzpatrick has a B.M. from the Hartt School where he studied with Alan Spriestersbach and his M.M. from The Yale School of Music where he studied with Benjamin Verdery. He also studied  extensively with Sharon Isbin and Sal Salvador. Based in Connecticut, he is active as a soloist and in the chamber music scene. Published by World Projects Corporation (A0.1027798). The text for Closer to Home is taken from a hymn written by Norbert Čapek (1870-1942.) Čapek was born in Bohemia and later became the founder of the Unitarian Church in the Czech Republic. Čapek joined the Unitarian Church while living in the U.S. escaping unwanted government pressure over his political and religious views. He also worked to gain U.S. support for a free state of Czechoslovakia. After World War I, he returned to Prague and it’s at this time he founded his church. During World War II, Čapek was accused of treason and sent to the Dachau concentration camp. He was put to death in 1942.The lyrics describe a traveler eager to the return home after a long journey. The journey is full of wonder and as it nears its end the anticipation grows. During the last stanza, Čapek reveals the story traces the traveler's journey through life and werealize how far the they have come.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548666 Composed by James Pierpont. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas. Score and part. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #3409331. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548666). Jingle Bells arranged for soprano sax & piano. Score: 4 pg. piano part: 3 pg. sax part: 1 pg. Jingle Bells is perhaps the most famous songs in American music history. James L. Pierpont published the song as One Horse Open Sleigh in the late 1850’s. Since its introduction, people began to insist that Pierpont wrote it for a Sunday school choir. However, it seems unlikely that such a secular song would be considered appropriate during that historical period for Sunday school.Christmas Repertoire Pierpont wrote the song for the Thanksgiving holidays, but over time people began to think of it more as a Christmas song. Some choirs adopted it as part of their Christmas repertoire in the 1860s and 1870s. Jingle Bells was first recorded in 1889 on a wax cylinder. Origins No one knows where Pierpont composed the song. One theory suggests he wrote it in Medford Massachusetts in 1850. Sleigh races were certainly popular in 19th Century Massachusetts. To this day, a commemorative placard appears in Medford square claiming that it is the birthplace of Jingle Bells. Others suggest that he wrote it in Savannah, Georgia where he was an organist and music director at the Unitarian Church. This theory gains support from the copyright date of 1857. We know he was living in Savannah by then. Traffic Signals Horse-drawn sleighs are relatively quiet in the snow. Consequently, horses were usually equipped with bell-laden straps so as to avoid accidents at blind intersections. Sleigh drivers in 19th Century New England were constantly vigilant, listening for the sounds of approaching horse-drawn sleighs. The tune imitates the rhythm that the trotting horse bells produce. Social Context Jingle Bells was sung as a drinking song at local revelries: during the song folks would rhythmically jangle the ice in their glasses. A sleigh ride gave couples an opportunity to be alone together. The term Jingle bells is a poetic descriptive adjective referring specifically to the more accurate term sleigh bells. In many arrangements, sleigh bells are used to accentuate the rhythm during the song chorus.  Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com
