However, his solo vocal music has been waiting to be unveiled to the public. Volume One includes 52 songs of Gouvy.Gouvy traveled widely throughout Europe. He was also a lover of nature. Generally, he spent his winters in Leipzig, but in the summertime, he always returned to Hombourg-Haut, France, to stroll through the woods, to hunt, and to relax. Gouvy was fluent in several languages and had a great appreciation of the Renaissance French Poetry of Pierre de Ronsard whose poetry he had set to music. The fifty-two songs in this volume are largely by Ronsard and other Renaissance poets of La Pléiade.Although Ronsard is approximately 300 years older than Gouvy, they both seem to have the same interest in classical literature, though, admittedly, for different reasons. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Therefore the size of the staves is bigger than usual for ease of reading on a small screen but not big enough to exceed the limit of a two-page view. Fourteen pieces for organ, dedicated to a “beloved friend, Fr. Teodoras Brazys,� presents the largest collection of works for this instrument in Naujalis’ oeuvre. Like Naujalis, Brazys was the graduate of the Church Music School in Regensburg. These fourteen preludes for organ appear to be written in expression of deep affinity and gratitude to a like-minded friend who shared similar values. Some of Naujalis’ organ preludes have been included in music collections abroad – by Mieczysław Surzyński in Warsaw and Joseph Joubert in Paris. Juozas Naujalis (1869–1934) – Lithuanian composer and organist. In 1892, he was appointed organist and choir leader at the Kaunas Cathedral, a position he held until his death. Naujalis became actively involved in organizing local musical societies and institutions. As an outcome of his groundbreaking work, a number of important private entities, such as the first boys’ choir in Lithuania based at the Archcathedral Basilica in Kaunas, courses and the school for organists (1911), the first legal Lithuanian bookshop and music publishing house in Kaunas (1905–1912), the first music magazine Vargonininkas (The Organist) and calendars for organists published in Lithuanian (1909–1910), and the music school in Kaunas (1919), have been launched. In 1908, he founded the Children Society and St. Gregory Society for Organists, which was later reorganised into St. Cecilia Society for church musicians (1924). Naujalis was also the first Lithuanian composer to achieve recognition abroad. His church music was published in Regensburg, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Leipzig and Paris. In recognition of his merits in the field of church music he was made Commander of the Order of the Crown of Italy in Rome, in 1929.A total of 29 organ pieces by Naujalis were recorded at the Archcathedral Basilica in Kaunas in 2019.

His musical journey began under the guidance of his father, Lajos Vecsey, but it was his subsequent studies with renowned violinist Jenő Hubay that truly shaped his virtuosity. At the tender age of 10, he impressed none other than Joseph Joachim with his exceptional skills, solidifying his status as a child prodigy.However, in the 1930s, tragedy struck. Just as Vecsey was poised to fulfill his dreams, he fell gravely ill with a pulmonary embolism, a condition that plagued him throughout his life. Seeking medical treatment, he traveled to Rome, where he underwent surgery in the hope of a recovery. Unfortunately, the operation proved unsuccessful, and at the tragically young age of 42, Franz de Vecsey succumbed to his illness.His piece, Valse Triste in C minor, composed in 1913 and dedicated to Princesse Elena Lante della Rovere, serves as a poignant reminder of Vecsey's musical genius. There is a long tradition of arranging piano music for guitar. This edition reverses that tradition. This set of music for piano is based my Twenty Etudes For Guitar. The guitar and the piano are certainly cousins so I believe the essence of works for one instrument can be expressed on the other, in either direction. While these pieces may in fact work as etudes for piano I have purposefully renamed them. Whether or not they work as etudes I will leave up to each individual pianist and piano teacher the extent of their didactic usefulness. Ultimately though all music can be used for study and my wish is these pieces can be used for study and performance. They are relatively brief and ideally played in sets, the number and selections being determined by the performer. The Score is available as a separate download The following is taken from the catalogue of the composer's works:- The photocopy of the MS is marked String Quartet No. 1, but is not regarded by the composer as part of his mature string quartet writing. The MS itself was lost in a fire at the home of Col. Robert Tong, formerly Registrar of Queen Mary College, University of London. A typesetting was made in November 2000 as the photocopy had faded so badly. The composer's sketch books suggest that the movements were written in the order 3,2,4,1. 1. Allegro 2. Scherzo (Allegro energico) Trio I - tempo di menuetto Trio II - no tempo indicated - [andante] 3. Andante con moto 4. Allegro ma non troppo Composer's note:- As the above suggests, I originally had no intention of publishing this early piece. It shows certain traits that I was to develop in the six quartets and others that I was to discard, and therefore is of musicological interest. It also has a few good, albeit imitative, tunes!
